While I've got the motor out, am I missing anything?

I have a 94, got the motor pulled to replace everything thats leaking (and everything is leaking). Just figured I'd check with everyone to see if theres anything else I need to do while the engine/trans is out.

I have so far

Timing Kit (gates kit w/ bearings), water pump
Cam seals, front and rear crank seals,
ebay 'f1 racing' stg 3 clutch kit (going to order oe pilot, throwout bearings)
moss coolant spacer, kia neck (reroute) (gotta find a 30mm freeze plug still)
EGR block off plate,
mazdacomp mounts,
Going to tap the oil pan while its off (drain and oil temp sender. still have to order the 'oil pan gasket kit' which is such a joke... but you gotta get those rubber end pieces)

Mainly, I want to know if theres anything else that I should get while I'm ordering from mazda-parts.com, got 2 99234-1916 (trans locating dowels) cuz I destroyed one getting it out so I could put the motor on my stand and have 3 bolts holding it up :)

94 doesnt run an egr if memory serves dude that started in 96.

I assure you I put an egr block off plate on it, had to dremel the tube to get the oe header off.. It also has the oil and coolant feed ports on the block and the oil pressure gauge is 'real' (edit: so I don't think its a later motor that got swapped in before I bought it) My brothers JDM 1.8 doesn't have EGR, but mine definitely does.

  • Boundary engineering oil pump gears on their new oil pump
  • I like to cut the valve cover so I can look at the cam gears and see if everything is timed correctly (I can swap timing belts in about 1-hour)
  • Put DEI "Tunnel Matt" around the engine-side footwell and through the trans tunnel (it's a bitch after installed and keeps soooooo much heat out of the car)
  • Paint any and everything you can white or light gray to spot leaks

Get the freeze plug at your local v8 parts house/machine shop.

This? http://www.designengineering.com/cat...und-insulation

BTW - Googling "DEI tunnel matt" returns this thread as the first result. :)

I also went around the leading edge of the tunnel matt and sealed it off with aluminum tape. I went from burning my right toe and melting wires to total comfort and no more melted drinks wedged between the seat and trans tunnel.

Cool deal (har). How much did you need?

I used the smallest one and used the "reflect a cool" stuff on the back half of the trans tunnel.

If I had the motor out I'd do something like this:

Yes that's a wild-ass Volvo
