Whining with idle issues. Videos included.
This morning I started the car and it started to whine (more like a long meeooooowwww) and the idle hunted a lot more than usual to where it died. The other thing is that when I depressed off the gas when driving and left my foot on the clutch the idle seemed to stick up top in the revs and went down a lot slower than normal. Usually I would think it was a belt(especially since I just changed the belt three weeks ago) but am confused to why idle is different. It is also running leaner than usual when I hold it around 1200rpms to keep it from stalling at start up. And it doesn't get louder as you accelerate. I can't really hear it when you press the gas.
Any help would be appreciated. http://www.flickr.com/photos/7653913@N02/4991461652/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/7653913@N02/4991494446/ |
any ideas?

Sounds like the whine could be a bearing. Did this happen before the idling problem? Reload the tune, they're probably separate issues.

If you mean a bearing in the alternator. I just replaced the alternater a bit over a year ago and I got a battery check light at that time.

Look at the main pulley while you have someone push on the clutch. Have the person release the clutch and then use a 2x4 against the radiator and using a prying motion, push backwards on the pulley ever so slightly. See if you can make the pulley rock back and forth ~1/4".

Just tried it. No shaft play.

sounds dead.
whats with r2d2? |
What sounds dead? The motor still runs like a champ.
Finally got to tighten the ac belt. I got excited cause it looked looser than before I changed it three weeks ago. It helped nothing. I am a little discouraged now. Do you guys think it could be something in the ecu? I guess trying old maps and reuploading firmware is the next plan of action. |
It sounds like something is rubbing. Did you tighten the belt too much and now it is bending the shaft one one of the accessories. Did you check power steering fluid? Turn steering wheel all the way left and right to see if it changes noise. If it does, check your pwr steering fluid. Check belt tension. I don't think it sounds like an internal issue.
