Left: 185/60-14 Falken 912s, going on '92 daisies for DD status :vash:
Right: 225/45-15 Nitto NT-01s, going on the 6ULs for baller status

teknikscian 01-18-2008 05:48 PM

hmmm never liked nittos after i had a set of the NT55 i think? a while back on my old mustang

how are those? good reviews?

240_to_miata 01-18-2008 05:49 PM

i just bought the falkens for my DD duty.. gettin the mounted monday (205/50/15 tho)

and im now runnin on a somewhat steady stream of used Rcomps from a miata team that i mount on a set of rota slipstreams for "broke baller status"

am i missing something here? whats the reason you dont like all-seasons? just cause a smaller tire is smaller? you know if you got them in the same size they would be the same height, right?... im just not following.

Bryce 01-18-2008 05:58 PM

Savington, you could've at least got 195 mm width Falkens and it would'nt be SO bad.:wavey:

Savington 01-18-2008 06:01 PM

Yeah, but the 185s were CHEAP, like $32 a tire cheap. I felt like I should have worn a ski mask while ordering them online.

At the end of the day, I do so much highway driving that NT-01s on the street made no sense at all. I would have just heat-cycled the crap out of them.

Just lamenting the loss of a quality summer tire for my everyday use. Makes no sense anymore, and I'd rather have an R-comp for the track and an all-season for the track than try and double-duty a tire. It worked for a while, but I've gotta get some sticky rubber under my car to keep the power down.

lemme get this straight, you're gonna run that pimp rig on 185/60's on Daisies?! WTF? You could at least sack up and run some 15x6.5"s.

y8s 01-18-2008 07:16 PM

so you realize there's no fourth season in mtn view or slo... a tire that works down to 45F is fine.

thesnowboarder 01-18-2008 07:17 PM

ill be in the same boat over summer as well. Assuming my current tires wear by then.

I really cleaned out my wallet getting the NT-01s, so I didn't have enough spare change to get a second set of wheels AND 15" tires for it. The cheapest 15" tires out there don't even compare to the cheapest 14" tires in cost. I could have gone with another set of R-S2s for the street and just swapped the tires between the same set of wheels, but that would have gotten prohibitively expensive pretty quickly. :vash:

While I'm home, I'll be running around on the NT-01s, but it just doesn't make sense to drive them 400 miles round-trip to school and back twice a month. For that stuff, the most cost-effective thing I could have done was cheap tires on daisies I already had.

Not the temps that scare me, it's the rain. Driving 4/32nds R-S2s in a torrential downpour for 200 miles is not something I want to do twice.

pschmidt 01-18-2008 08:18 PM

No pity here. :) I just yawed at least 20 degrees in fourth gear on AAA temp rated rubber. Time to start driving the AWD car for the rest of the winter.
