Why is my radio so quiet?! NB MIATA LS

Hey so I have a 2003 Miata LS with the leather, LSD, fog lights. You know... basically, my radio is so quiet! And the quality is so muddled and mute sounding with no depth! Is this because something is broken? Or just how they sound?

If this is just the way the stock bose speakers sound with the stock head unit... what’s the solution to make the sound quality improve? I can’t even hear my radio full blast over 50mph

I have a 2003 and the radio works just fine. I would think either you have some settings you need to change or a loose connection somewhere.
I did have some trouble with my radio when I had the battery out for a few months. The screen would only display intermittently. This went away after a few driving cycles.

Is this a new problem with a previously working radio or is the car new to you?

does it have aftermarket speakers? if yours originally had a Bose unit the original speakers were only about 0.5 Ohm so check if yours has the bose speakers initially or the amp in the center console, it is about the size of a cigarette pack right on top of the transmission tunnel

If your not running a quality head unit, speakers, and amp the sound will be piss poor above 50ish.

Bose has historically had a reputation of being nothing but hype. With that said, if it's really that "quiet", i'd grab a multi-meter and check for power at the amp and resistance levels at the speakers to see what load the amp is seeing. Should be able to quickly figure out what's going.

This would be the first thing I'd check. I had a radio wired up with a bad connection to the amp and you could hear it - barely - fully cranked. Wired in the amp and had to set max volume so I wouldn't go deaf.
