Worth?

Well, I seem to have come to a crossroads. With all the knowledge of MT.net i think when I do a turbo it will have to be decent, not necessarily as "Junkyard Wars" as planned. I will probably have a decent amount of cash in a turbo track miata :<. I don't mind taking a little more time to build the car, but want to at least make sure I don't end up so backwards in the thing that it outweighs what I could have just purchased complete. Do you all think a 92 1.6 track car (cage, 200-250hp turbo, spec miata suspension, "average" looking car) would be worth, say 5k-6k? Or is this project better purchased complete?

Thanks,
-Matt

You'll never build a car and sell it for what you have in it. Simple fact. If you don't enjoy building your shit, and don't appreciate the peace of mind knowing it's "new" and "right", buy someone else's toy. Most here enjoy the build as much as the finished product. I personally find satisfaction in knowing I assembled the computer that I tuned to run my car. Some would rather pay FM 2K and plug in a hydra and be done.

It won't be worth shit when you're done. You'll loose around 70% of all the money you put into it come resell time and not get a dime for your time. Only way to mod it and possibly make a profit would be to do a V8 conversion or something along those lines, and even that isn't as profitable as it is was with the slew of kits now available.

Well, that's the answer I was not wanting. Don't you think it would be worth 5k though?? I guess I know what the real answer to this deal is though, take the turbo kit off, sell it as a spec miata. They seem to go all day long for 6-8k. I guess I kinda answered my own question there. hmmm, sorry for the interruption. haha

Well, here's what happened last time I said I wasn't going to end up dumping a chunk into something. If any of you guys know minis, you've probably seen this bike before, if not, and you've got any questions, feel free to ask. Minibikes are a subject I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable in.

124cc of fury!!

You can have a fun car without getting carried away. If you want to run with Vetts and Porsche's like Hustler. You are going to pay for it. Personally, I would buy a used greddy kit for 450-$800. Intercool it, get a bipes or msd box,1.8L injectors, fmu, 9psi & call it a day. A used kit may come with all of that!
Throw on KYB springs and shocks. You shouldn't be backwards in cost, and you will have a cheap really fun car. It is fun to pull up to all riced out cars, and shut them down.

It all falls into what you want and $$$$. My cheap car is a blast, and I never tune anything.

The faster car, I am adjusting all the time. It is fun though.

Time to get real:

Every cent you spend to make this car fast is a waste. I've missed out on 3-cars i wish i could purchase, rather than build mine, which hasn't moved since April. Do you want to get out on the track and sit at the big kid's table, or do you want to nip on the GT cars and set lap records?

well, you know, I'm thinking I can build a nice track car / drive everyone once and awhile on the street car for around 5k...I can't be unhappy with that...I've had much more than that in some of the motorcycles I've had and almost double that in a mini bike...sooooo. I think I'll be fine. Sometimes I tend to get a little cheap, but from what I've seen I think I can make all my own intercooler plumbing and downpipe, purchase an ebay 16g compatible manifold, and run a megasquirt and be within budget. The other things I need to do that are going to cost money include a pieced together spec miata suspension kit, cheap corbeau seat, probably pick up a used steering wheel and quick release mechanism. I think I've got it under control, man, I hope I've got it under control. haha.
