yokohama avid h4s vs any tire

anyone have any experience with the yok h4s's? if so what are your thoughts on the sidewall strength and treadwear? and can you compare it to another tire thats out there. thx

looking for a better alternative in my 185/60/14 than the ziex 512. so maybe a comparison against them would be perfect

I purchased a set of H4's in 15" for my OTM. They were OK as far as ride quality goes, but they wore through fast. The fronts lasted about a year, the rears a few extra months. I was very disappointed with their treadware. IIRC they were 205 60 15. Wouldn't recommend.

MX_Eva 03-22-2007 09:41 PM

yeah I had the same experience..tread wear was extremely short, and twords the end it developed a shudder from unblanaced tread wear which i heard is common. I initially really liked the tire though *shrug*

You'd be better off with what I got, Bridgestone Potenza Pole position.

Toyo T1R-currently on the car
Hankooks-never had them
GSD3's, but not sure if they come in 14's-awesome tire, very similar to the Toyo's

well i am not looking for an expensive tire. simply looking for a tire that wont wear thru in 2000 miles and has a sidewall that wont give in with normal driving haha. have you drivin on a zeix before?

Ben 03-22-2007 11:03 PM

the h4 will do better than 2k miles. I think I got 6 or 8k "daily driver" type miles, on a mid size 4 door sedan. I was expecting to get at least 40k out of em. Big disappointment.

mxv 03-22-2007 11:09 PM

yea whats up with tires these days :gay: on a more serious note... do you guys change tires about once every 8 months? my parents think its because of the tires i am buying but i think its the driving/alignment. i think the h4 and ziex can put down as many miles as a goodyear regatta haha.

well what tire would you guys suggest for 30-40 a tire in 185/60/14 with no attention to grip, just want a stiff sidewall and somthing that dosnt melt away like an es100

hustler 03-22-2007 11:24 PM

I had a set, fast wearing too.

I really like the pirelli p-zero nero M&S for daily drivers. Its the longest lasting tire I've ever had...but they don't make a 15".

My kumho ecsta 711's lasted a pretty long time. I had a set of sumitomo htr2's last a while.

mxv 03-22-2007 11:27 PM

how would the sidewalls on the sumitomo htr2s?

not as firm as the kumhos...and I really like the 711 for a non track tire. I'll buy the kumhos again for the street set. The sumitomo htr wore a little longer I think. Both times I have 205/50/15's.

Side wall on Potenza's are nice =P Seriously though they are a little expensive but one of the best rated tires I could find for a 14 and they were all season. They hold the road well and I got a chance to use em on ice, they worked well enough once I got moving, on snow they are great. (and by that i mean they grip when I wanted em to and slipped when i told em to)

What do you want the tires for? Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question, but you want a stiff side wall but grip isnt a concern....Drifting? The tires we have all mentioned have a really low treadwear, high traction ratings, and will run out of life in a short time. If you baby GSD3's, then you MAY get 12-18k out of them. On average I spend over a benjamin per tire, to me I will not skimp in that area. Not worth it. Unless, you are needing them for a special purpose.

well with my spring rates i really need a stiff tire. just about everytire i have put on here feels like butter. i think its time to throw the 14's away and get some 15's so i can start looking at some 50 sidewalls. the 14's really are limited with what tires you can use. 15's seem to have a good variety.

the tires I posted range from a 320-440 wear rating...which is a # designated per manufacturer, and not a standardized rating system.

werd, I had 440's on a caddy and they dry rotted before they were around 80% treadwear left....Long live 80k tires!:td: I should have said the tires that "I" mentioned are around 240-260...Sorry 'bout that. :bigtu:

Get some light weight 15's like Heliums or Volks. Volks are a bit pricey, but Heliums are not. Rota C8's arent heavy either, and are fairly inexpensive. I had those when I had the Goodyear F1's. I got Chaparrals and the Toyo T1R from Rspeed. Not heavy of a rim and tire combo. Dont throw the 14's away, ya never know when you may need them.

I really liked the kumho 711's for daily driving. I'll buy them over and over for street tires.
