You F$&#ing Bastard!!!

So last night I finally got around to replacing my door hinges. Well, on the drivers side, I managed to knock the pressed in bolt/stud/stupidest designed thing in the universe inside the unibody  . Does anyone have a good idea about how to get it out that doesn't involve a rotozip and a welder?

Thanks
-Rouphis

Turn the car on its side and shake?

Exactly what I was thinking....just like when I'd lose my guitar pick inside the guitar.

dpexp 02-15-2010 05:40 PM

Magnet on a string. (nevermind I fail)

flipt86 02-15-2010 05:42 PM

Magnet on some fishing line...? Worth a shot.

You guys do realize that the car itself is made of ferrous metal, right?

 Hey, I got something! A car! I tried this trick in the area around the rear shock mount, on the inside of the trunk where there is that little lip all the way around a larger opening. I succeeded in losing a nut AND 2 36lb pull force neodynium magnets. :giggle: They will forever be stuck to the car where my fingers can't reach to pull them off.

flipt86 02-15-2010 07:50 PM

Lol, thanks Joe. I realize this. :) Still think it would work with some small magnets that were not too powerfull. It depends on how deep these holes are though and also how big the area is at the bottom. What about if you soldered them onto the end of a coat hanger?

johnwag 02-15-2010 07:55 PM

swiss cheese the unibody until it falls out.

Hella JDMz dawg.

Chew a big wad of gum; wrap it into a loop on a wire coat hanger and go fishing.

Best one so far. Also increases torsional rigidity.

mx5autoxer 02-16-2010 09:43 AM

Small shop vac maybe. I'm not sure exactly where you lost it or how big the hole is but you could make a pvc and duct tape fitting and suck it out. :naughty:

cueball1 02-16-2010 12:33 PM

Magnet on the coathanger idea I like. Need something you can bend in but stiff enough to guide down.

That's what she said.

Savington 02-16-2010 01:14 PM

I lost one of those when I put the doors back on after repainting the car. I just left it. I can't say that it caused a new rattle, since I can't really hear anything except the exhaust.

mgeoffriau 02-16-2010 01:19 PM

Oh, I just figured out the solution.

Take a pile of dirt and a shovel. Start shoveling that dirt into the hole. As the dirt goes in, the dog will shake the dirt off its back and move around. Slowly the floor of the hole will move up and eventually the dog can just step out of the hole.

you couldn't use a magnet on the outside to attract the bolt/stud and slide it up to where you can reach it?

mikewolf 02-16-2010 02:09 PM

Drive the car though the winter a few times in the rust belt. It will fall out on its own.

Oh snap! You might have something there. My grandmother had little ice skater figurines and she'd make them "skate" on a cookie sheet by moving a magnet underneath.

Just use some wax paper or something to protect the paint.

This. Better yet, put the magnet on a small toy or something with wheels so that it does not actualy contact the outside of the chassis.

miatamania 02-16-2010 03:49 PM

Why cant you just use a flexible magnet?

spoolin2bars 02-16-2010 09:17 PM

a bolt or nut will never outsmart me. as far as they are concerned..............i am a god!
