High Octane adventure
So, i went to a thortons today and pulled up to the pump to notice that they only had 92 octane. So, i circled around and was about to leave when i noticed that one of the pumps said 93 on it. I pulled up to the pump and saw this:
87 3.92
92 4.02
93 4.12
However, all the other pumps said this:
87 3.92
89 4.02
92 4.12
So you can see, something is wrong there. So i went inside and asked what the deal was and the manager came out and said "Oh the must have put the wrong stickers on the pump."
Thats bull ****, what if someone from CA came here, had their car tuned for 91 and put what they thought was 92 in it but they were really getting 89. Can you say knock?
Discuss.

Haha, its the principle! What if i tuned my car for 91 so i wouldnt have to drive around to get 93? Every station has at least 91 only about half around here have 93
edit: AANNDD its the fact that i am paying for something and not getting what i expected. Who's to say you are really getting 93 octane?

You tune your timing map on the highest octane that is readily available. Knock is what kills motors, a few things cause knock. Low octane fuel, high intake air temperatures, too much boost, too much timing advance. Timing is where you get your power. More Boost+More timing=more power. I hope that makes sense. As i've said before, i really need to take a technical writing course.

No, i mean, if you added fuel to prevent knock, then you might pull that fuel if you had higher octane. The place to tune your spark map is on the dyno. Thats the only place you will ever get it right.
