So we need the 73/54mm hubcentric ring set for these?

I need a set and these are attractive. I am wondering if the clearance is any different than the same size 6uls. Specifically I am comparing my 15x9 6ul set to the 15x9 S1 set. A brake upgrade is in the cards for next season and I'm hoping to find that the TSE, FM, Goodwin etc brake kits still clear the S1 wheels.

The only dimension I see being potentially different is near the hub where the 6uls curve out more radically than the spokes on the S1.

Are you able to package with Rivals? Or are Rivals still off-limits beyond Tire Rack and Phil's?

Yes, we can mount and balance any of our tires on these....and we got Rivals on our site.

Not sure if you know this, but your price for 225 Rivals is ~50% higher than Tire Rack's ($129/tire vs. $189/tire). Even figuring in local mounting/balancing, I can't justify a wheel/tire package from you because of the high tire price. Am I missing something? Typo?

My Toyos come from TOYO.

But Rivals are a Tirerack exclusive...so we got to pay to get them here from Tirerack and the 'wholesale' dealer discount doesn't cover the ship costs to get them here.

So if you got to have Rivals, likely your best price is actually get the wheels from us without tires (which cuts your ship costs in half) and ask your local Tirerack dealer to match the Tirerack price on the tires (or as close as they can get...which may be the TR price before they charge for mount and balance). BUT...I suggest you find local Hunter Mount and Balance dealer (enter your zip code on their website), so you know you get a balance job precise enough for the Miata. We are happy to mount and balance them, and we do a MUCH better job of it than 99% of the shops out there, but that convenience is not free...particularly since we end up shipping the tires twice, those convenience costs got to be paid.

PS. All my local STR customers were on TOYO R1R....and then went the Rivals when it become the hot tire of the moment everybody had to have....but since then they have all come back to the TOYO R1R. Why do you suppose that is?

My circumstance is unique -- Dad is a retired 40+ year BFG engineer so I pathologically have to buy Michelin/BFG.

No Unicorns were injured in the making of these wheels.

When I hold our template to the wheel the tightest tolerance is just off the hub, thanks to the straight spokes. There is quite a bit of room around the outside such that a bigger diameter kit may indeed clear....I just don't yet know how much bigger you can go.

Wake up and smell the lust for victory. First, only some of these guys are buying the tires from me. But more important is that the fast guys don't care which tire costs more, they care about being the fastest. And the fastest STR guys here have gone back to the Toyo because they get more events at the top of the results with it. Apparently the Rival bakes out a bit too fast for their tastes.

The fastest local STR guy is Jeff C. I asked him and he also noted that he loved and prefers the rivals on a stock class car (he also raced an FRS in stock class). He also loves the Rivals in very HOT conditions. But overall, on a car like an STR class MX5, where he can have all the camber he wants, he prefers the feel and longevity of the TOYO. He thus ranked the Rival as the best choice for stock/street classes (or very HOT days), but the Toyo the better choice for cars with more optimal camber.

I just noticed this but the tires on the car in the original post are on the wrong side. You can tell by the markings on the tire that say which way it's supposed to rotate. But i love the wheels.

I was curious if anybody would notice...you win! No tires were injured in the making of the photos ....the car didn't drive anywhere, there is actually just ONE 15x9 in the country. We took pic of that ONE wheel with tire on the front ...and then on the back, both sides.... and then put two halves of the car together on the computer...and I liked the way the light hit the driver's side of the car best so those are the pics we used.

But if it had driven on a complete set it would not hurt performance of the tire except in the rain, which is not real relevant here in arid San Diego where the total rain for the year is about 5 inches. Many will intentionally rotate and run their directional tires both directions in dry conditions to even up the wear.
