Our TURBO 2.3 NC-EXTREME Project....

After months and months of gathering parts our Turbo NC-EXTREME LIVES!

Dry Sump 2.3 in 2006 NC. Final Assembly has started. Much work to do, much remains to be made from scratch, including down pipe, but hope to be testing in a few weeks.

Wow...very clean.

What kind of power numbers are you shooting for?

aww snap looks like this will be interesting

viperormiata 08-30-2011 01:08 AM

Looks great so far! Can't wait to see it completed.

Why is the 5th cylinder plugged with the manifold flange? Running 4-cylinder mode?

mgeoffriau 08-30-2011 10:01 AM

Huh. Until I saw that pic, it never struck met that intake/exhaust were reversed on the NC engine (from the B6/BP).

Braineack 08-30-2011 10:02 AM

baus!

wittyworks 08-30-2011 12:45 PM

Did you guys build that manifold or buy it from somewhere? Why does the flange look so weird, all the extra space on the left that is just blank.

Braineack 08-30-2011 12:50 PM

it appears to be a BEGi manifold, but I could be wrong here.

edit: i think im wrong here.

Lol! Thats the way they do the egr on the MZR engines. There is a passage from the exhaust port on the 4th cylinder all the up to near the intake manifold. That extra peice on the flange covers said passage.

What turbo?

Laur3ns 08-31-2011 01:22 AM

V-band that shit up!

Good-Win Racing LLC 09-07-2011 12:26 AM

Hi Guys

It's a 2.3 FOUR cylinder dry sump. That's a standard BEGI manifold made for the 2.0....but fits the 2.3 just the same. Motor built to easily make north of 500 hp but running smallish GT2871 turbo for max response and perhaps low 300 range because this car will see duty in XP class SCCA autocross against the XP FrankenLotus (Google it).

Having all sorts of fun fitment issues that we are working around.

Plan includes doing extraction hood to push a lot of air through this combo. ...as seen on our NCLIGHT

Tasty!

Excuse my NC ignorance, but how come this pic appears to show a lot of space around the exhaust manifold, whereas the BEGI pics I've seen, show it's very tight around there?

hustler 09-07-2011 12:56 AM

Where is the TiAL wastegate?

My god. Don't post this on m.net, they might lynch you.

Yeah, this motor lives where NC normally has either a bolt in panel at the firewall, or the mount for the shock tower brace. For our purposes we needed motor as far back as we could get it. This meant standard BEGI manifold doesn't actually fit our car without some additional 'persuasion' against some parts of the firewall below where you see in this picture. In the end we have about half an inch of clearance for the downpipe, which should be enough. From that downpipe the exhaust will then cross through panel covered section of passenger footwell  ..... to 3 inch side exhaust.

We won't miss that factory shock tower brace much....we made our own two point brace....AND this is a fully caged AND stitch welded car many times stiffer than stock.

So this is a 2.3 stock or is it a 2.0 with the 2.3 crank set up in it?
What will you be doing for engine management?
I have an MZR sitting here I can use. I am tempted to put the 2.3 crank in it.
What type of ftlbs would you expect someone to see at the 500rwhp range?
I cant to read more on this..

Good-Win Racing LLC 10-31-2011 12:59 AM

This is a 2.3. Was a Formula Atlantic motor...rebuilt with low compression pistons suitable for the boost. Could easily make 500 hp with a big turbo but will use a small one with the aim of making hyper responsive XP car....

hustler 10-31-2011 01:12 AM

I've been thinking about moving my oil cooler to the same location as yours. Have you always run this set-up, and if not did you see a change in water temps? Right now temps are very good but the oil cooler is under the car and asking for a rock puncture.
