Travis,
Installing my gears. Do you have a diagram of suggested clearances I need to check? Any suggestions for checking / testing the relief valve? Shocked after seeing pics of the 01 and newer pumps scored up inside, my 94 pump with 85K looks practically new inside. |
I know the earlier pump housings are tanks. When they switched the castings over, they did a real dis service to the oiling system. Send me an email, and I'll send you the chart. The new pumps ordered ship with the clearances included.
The only thing I"ve ever seen the relief valves need are good cleaning. If your going to run into problems it will be here though. Sometimes debris gets jammed up into the valve and hangs it either open or closed. The best thing you could do on the relief valve would be: Deburr the piston edges. Then wash with Acetone , dish soap, rinse well, finish with acetone. Rinse the relief valve cylinder bore the same way. Reassemble piston assembly with assembly lube, or lithium grease. Best, Travis |
+1 on PnP crank trigger wheel setup.
Interested in OP gears since I'm in the middle of a build. How long is this "limited time offer" good for? |

It's a 16mm bore, I wonder if there are any hones that small. EDIT: they ARE available http://www.brushresearch.com/brushes.php?c1=1 |

Would lightly honing the bore be a bad idea?

EDIT: they ARE available Standard Small Diameter Flex-Hones Manufacturing & Supplies: Brush Research Manufacturing We have started honing the relief valve cylinder in the High flow and Ultra high flow housings. I think the crosshatch helps with the smoothness of the cylinder and lubrication of the valve. Stuart |
next thing would be a surface coating that the iron can embed itself into so it doesn't wear on the piston.

I think our new drop in replacement valve system will be the answer once it has been tested. We should begin testing in a few weeks. Stuart |
