Setting up boost by gear

Hi All,

is anyone aware of a practical tutorial for wiring a speed signal into the Elite series and then setting up a boost table that is gear referenced?

My 1500 on PNP harness (NA8) does not have a speed signal working despite having a vss input from teh gauge stack. No help to you, but another data point.

My 1500 PNP on NBFL VVT has the 6 speed drivetrain sensor wired in as standard so I use this and it works well in traction - no obvious issue at any time. This is a hall effect sensor I think.

I previously wired in a front ABS sensor for traction control as well. I'm not entirely sure how safe this is to the ABS system but it did work. I've since removed it to ensure the ABS is safe as I take my child out in the car a lot and can't compromise their safety for an unknown. This is a variable reluctance sensor.

What are you thinking of using for your speed signal? I can try to help as best as possible.

I think this is what I will attempt to use. If the input is already there that’s straightforward. I don’t know how to set up and enable a table for RPM/speed/boost calculation.

I set up my closed loop target pressure table as Axis 1 = RPM, Axis 2 = Throttle Position, Axis 3 = Rotary Trim module position.

This allows me to have a number of boost maps. 8 maps in my case which are a mixture of flat boost levels for testing and setting base duty cycles and then boost by RPM where I raise boost further up the RPM range, limiting torque at lower RPM as I'm on a standard engine.

I can then use Boost Control Target Pressure Gear Correction Table to modify my boost per gear if wished.

If you want more control over the map per gear you could make Gear an axis on your main closed loop target pressure table. Or you could add a target pressure generic correction table which would give you an additional 2 axis of control.

It depends what is important to you as to how you do it. My main priorities were having different boost maps, boost per RPM and boost per TPS all mapped against each switch position.

This annoys me. I suppose you could tap it and run it around the PnP box?

Yeah, bit of a pain in teh dick when it should allegedly be there. I was planning on mounting a sensor on the driveshaft.
https://www.jegs.com/i/RacePak/806/8...M-250/10002/-1 you can get a 2 magent in 2.5" which should fit the miata shaft. haltech sells 4 or 8 magnet ones but they stop at 2.187" another option I saw was a generic kit with a halle effect sensor and 4 neodymium magnets to epoxy to the UJ. haven't even poked my head under to see where to put the sensor - been buried in house renovations and have only put fuel in the car. Would be interesting to hit the VSS input from teh cluster with an oscilloscope and see what we are looking at.

Add this one to the master "shit you need to do to make haltech work" sticky we need to make.

I have no real gripes with haltech per se, haltech is a generic solution whereas MS has guys at DIY that have built the platform with the miata in mind, whereas the Haltech has not had that steering the development. Just need a list of solutions on paper for what you need to make it all work.
