Boost Ignition Timing Base Map
I would like to see the Ignition Timing base map from other Daily Driver Turbo Miata's that are running on an otherwise basically stock engine. I'd like to compare my values to those that others are running. I do realize that what works "here" may not work "there", but I'd just like a few other inputs for reference. For reference I have an FM2 kit with 2 1/2" exhaust on a 99. I'm currently running 12PSI.

Download the base maps from DIYAutotune and take a look at their spark tables. That will give you a good starting point to look at. Most people people are running those, or slightly modified versions of those.

I run the DIY base map. I think I slightly modified it in the 225-250kpi range, because chicken.

I'm not familiar with the DIYAutoTune. I did a Google search and came up with the DIYAutoTune website which to these novice eyes "seems" to be geared to the MegaSquirt crowd. I feel like I'm missing something? Thanks for helping the blind.

Rpm, manifold pressure, spark. Just compare them.

I totally did not realize that this was in the Hydra section and not in the MS section. I can't really help you with the hydra spark map, but I am willing to bet 95% of Hydra users are using the same spark table that FM supplies.

Do I need a viewer of some kind to see the data? Sorry, I realize this is simplistic stuff to you guys. Agree with you on most just sticking with what is supplied. I would have too if I had not went to the dyno and had it tuned. In comparing what the tuner did verse what was supplied I can see sizable gains that would have otherwise passed me by. Now of course, when I make changes or the season changes, I'd like to see if there's 10hp just lying there untouched...... waiting on me and make a best guess alternate tune before going back to the dyno. |
You have to download and install TunerStudio to open the MSQ file.
Honestly though I would not be messing with the spark table unless you are on the dyno and tuning for MBT. Thinking you could just possibly add in a little here and there to get 10 more whp is a recipe for blowing the engine. |

The timing map isn't something I've bothered messing with . Jeremy's base map seems pretty good already . The one time I rolled some extra timing in accidentally ( I was loading a couple of different maps and accidentally changed the timing reference angle by a couple of degrees ) I was into knock as soon as I got into boost . Thank god the knock detection strategy works as good as it does. On the other hand I have leaned out the AFR Target map in the boost regions . I run nothing but 94 octane and they were pretty conservative I thought . Fred B

Probably true. I do have a knock sensor and I datalog, but it's most wise to make changes at the dyno.

Run with the stock base map, pull a few degrees even if you're worried, or keep an eye on knock

If you pm me your email I can send you a copy of my current map when I get home from work . I pretty much daily drive mine during the summer months , but I'm a long way from stock at this point. I'm presuming your 2.7 on the latest firmware.

Yes, 2.7 on the latest firmware. I noted your signature which shows extensive changes. I'm running a 2560 with FM happy meal, 949 aluminum balancer, shim under bucket valvetrain, vent to atmosphere BOV and COP. I've addressed my cooling problem (bias based term) and the car now stays in the mid 180's now. I plan on going full 3 inch exhaust (no cat) and meth injection during the winter in hopes of putting down 275HP/250RWTQ safely (another opinionated term). Feel confident that the torque will be the harder to obtain in my case as I do not have a VVT head.
