FLAT FOOT SHIFTS
 
For some time I've wanted to give the NO LIFT shift ability a try. It may sound whimpy but I'm a bit timid to just plug in some "guesses" for fuel/ignition cut cycles and go out and let it rip. If it weren't for turbo lag or burp that the car gets from flipping the throttle plate open-shut-open I wouldn't even care, but there are times when that burp costs car lengths.

So to get to it, can anyone share a map with me that has similar engine setup that they use (repeatedly and the car didn't grenade) ?

My car is a VVT car with a 2860 turbo with internal wastegate and cast T25 manifold. It produces about 15-16 PSI currently on 93 octane.

Which transmission are you running? It sounds like you make a fair amount of power and torque. Transmission don't like sudden torque and transmission really don't like being slammed into gear and fed instant torque.

You don't need to change your map, rather just enable it through the 2-Step/NLS menu in tunerstudio. As for the transmissions, using NLS on a 250 whp Rotrex car, we went through about one transmission every two years. They wouldn't break or anything, but the synchros would wear and they'd start to feel crappy. Personally a $300 trans every two years is more than worth the benefit, but to each their own.

Are you going through 2 transmissions per year or 1 every 2 years? Because if I was spending $1200 in transmission every other year I would change what I am doing.

1) Hydra car
2) This makes a lot more torque than your Rotrex car. If a 5spd, it will shatter the first time. If a 6 speed, it'll be a consumable, and they cost many more dollars than a 5spd.
3) NLS is stupid unless a drag car, at which point, there's a whole other host of things that will pay off a lot more and tear up your car less.

If you're doing it on a car that isn't a drag car, you're a ricer.

I respectfully disagree, as do many time attack drivers and that's okay. Worth noting that all manual GM performance brand cars also have this feature from the OE, not sure I'd call that a ricer mod.

What's more worth mentioning is that those GM cars have transmissions rated at more than like... 180ftlbs. :rofl:

Gotta say normally I get 1 reply to questions, I was pretty shocked to see all these replies this morning; that in itself is kinda cool. So the car made over 320RWHP during a dynotune in which the boost was regulated by lifting the throttle some. This was prior to porting the wastegate. It just hasn't been retuned yet. That's not to say "look at me", it's just for reference. Tons of people make tons more power I know. The tranny in the car is the original 5 spd but I do have a 6 spd awaiting this one's demise. I'm not anxious to switch it out because I also autocross the car and the 2nd gear in a 6 speed combined with my lowish redline doesn't work the best even with 3.63 rear.

So if I'm hearing you right, even a proper NLS in my car is probably going to cause the transmission to expire and maybe even the next transmission. I was hoping the cut cycles would limit the shock the next gear change gave to the transmission.

Just for reference, I'm not a ricer... I'm an old guy that doesn't like losing a half second every time I up-shift when every tenth counts.
