Good start with MBC

After putzing with the EBC for almost a year, I gave up on it. Called FM and they said they don't even sell the FM II with the solenoid anymore, they only include the MBC due to tuning problems. Finally installed it today and WHOA! Flat boost response, it gets to a boost level and just sits there. I almost dropped a tear except I was busy trying to make sure I didn't hit any small animals. (small incident after my first professional tuning event) Anyway...

I would appreciate it if you all could take a look at my files and my logs and see where I might be able to improve. I know it is still running a little rich after replacing my stock fuel pump with the walbro 255.

Funny side note, I have been auto tuning the car for the past week or so just with the wastegate boost pressure getting up to about 8psi. Today was the first time I got over that threshold and MAN what a difference. I hit over that boost level and it was like hitting a wall of slow. SO much gas was being delivered, my log showed I hit an AFR of 8.9... Corrected that fast, but it is still running a bit rich.

After I get my AFRs back where they need to be, I plan on tackling my timing table. I read the previous thread in the megasquirt section and y8s seemed to have some good insight that I hope he will help me with. I am especially interested in how to tune for maintaining vacuum while driving around, compression braking and of course, more power.

I didn't know FM did use the solenoid anymore. I have been having problems with mine for the longest time as well. I guess I'll be making a call to them on Monday.

what problems were you having with the EBC? Wouldn't hold boost or tended to overshoot/spike?

It's weird. When I have the laptop hooked up and the boost numbers set, and go for a drive the boost is dead on. As soon as I unplug the laptop and go for a drive the boost will overshoot and spike. When I plug the laptop in to download my settings from the ecu to see if anything has changed and it hasn't. I've struggled trying to figure it out.

All of those issues are common. I live near the ocean and had 20-30 degree difference in my temp between the morning and the evening commute. I just got tired of messing with it. Just get the unit from 3barracing.com. It is the same one that FM shipped me, works great, and it should save you about $30 over what I paid for it. The manufacturer sells it for $35, FM $47. FM shipping also cost me $13 for a one pound box

Search around right now in the DIY section. There is an active thread on how to make your own MBC if you are super cheap.

Here is a good site for how to setup the EBC on the Hydra I discovered a few weeks ago.

Hydra Nemesis 2 Boost Controller Installation Instructions

I've almost got mine to be reliable, FM setups up there solenoid to work in internal wastegate bleed type but if you using an external wastegate the PWM2 map is completely different according to that site. I'm running begi s5 with a 38mm tial wastegate.

Tuning the wastegate is a two person job, in the mean time I've been using a hallman rx with my setup with zero overshooting.
