Hydra 2.50: Emission test failure on CO and Lambda
 

Hi guys,

MSM 2004 + Hydra 2.50r15

I failed the yearly emission test, last year was touch and go.
Car is in Europe. Two tests. One at idle and one at 2000-3200 rpm´s

With some remapping idle is fine now, it was too rich.
In the 2000-3200 rpm range I´m still not good.
Must have no more that 0.2% CO and Lambda 0.97 or greater with a heated engine.
At 2000 rpm I now have 9.0% CO and Lambda 0.8. With more revs both values get worse.
My tuner who programs the Hydra says: At 2000rpm the WBO2 should automatically adjust, no manual mapping adjustments should be necessary.

Is this true ? Could my WBO2 be bust? 35K on the car of which 20k with Hydra.

Any help would be appreciated.

FM says the Hydra wideband sensor is good for 500 hours of use. How much do you think you've done?

20.000 miles at an avergae of 40mph makes 500 hours....:giggle:
Hard to tell what my average speed was over 20k miles, but with idling, traffic, lights it could be as low as 40.

How can you tell/measure if the WBO2 is bust ?

Remove the sensor from the exhaust, put a lighter next to it, press the button to get the gas out but don't ignite it (no flame). As the gas from the lighter displaces the oxygen, the reading on the Hydra should turn from full lean to full rich. Stop the lighter and blow on the sensor - it should go to full lean.

Ronald, depending on how the hydra is set, auto tuning will only appear when a computer is attached to the hydra.
I run into the same issue, but have a great shop I go to, so now I have a set of settings that give perfect emission test results, hand fed into the hydra while on the smog bank. I simply load that setting when I have to go for a test, spot on, back to the old settings at home and have fun.

I think we had contact earlier about why your hydra is running rich on the dutch forum. I would be glad to help out to solve your issue.

Um

closed loop control with hydra can be assigned to either the wideband or narrowband (if you still have it).

there are also a few tables/maps that dictate when the EMS enters closed loop mode. I think that there is both a TPS table and an engine load table.

You probably should also tune your fuel map a bunch.
