Hydra 2.6

Any one on here running it yet?

DeerHunter 02-07-2009 01:53 PM

I am. Seems to be fairly easy to autotune and quite versatile. Won't have a chance to play with it again until springtime.

akaryrye 02-07-2009 01:55 PM

thats quite the setup deerhunter

Did you start out with it or did you upgrade from 2.5?

DeerHunter 02-07-2009 03:12 PM

Thanks akaryrye. It was a long time coming - I had to rough it for many a year.

JayL, 2.6 was out when FM did my install, so I started with that. According to Jeremy, it's quite the step up from 2.5 (he says it should have been named 3.0).

y8s 02-07-2009 05:44 PM

it is a huge step up from 2.5. I spent quite a lot of time reading over the new features and it's impressive--with some caveats. the datalogging at first glance looks awesome, but really it sucks for a daily driver. otherwise it's pretty solid.

JayL 02-07-2009 07:28 PM

I've read quite a bit as well and I'm eager to give it a try. I'm really curious how well everything will transfer over from a lesser version without having to get it tuned again. Next winter is when I'm going to make the switch, but I'm not wanting to go into this blind. Figure if I start learning about it now it won't be too rough.

y8s 02-08-2009 11:28 AM

treat it as a totally different EMS. I forget if maps will port over, but there's enough different with it that it may well be worth starting from a base map and re-tuning it all.

DeerHunter 02-08-2009 01:48 PM

y8s, do you know if the EBC function incorporates boost assist? From the documentation, it appears that it does, but Jeremy at FM maintains that a MBC works better.

Right now, I'm running with a MBC, but I dropped from 24 psig in Grand Junction (4,800 ft) to 18-19 psig at home (2,000 ft). I'd also like to experiment with gear-dependent boost.

y8s 02-08-2009 03:20 PM

boost assist is (as far as i know), is just a function of tuning your boost control correctly.

boost assist simply holds the wastegate shut until the last second when it opens to control boost without overshoot.

since you can alter the boost duty cycle directly in the hydra, you can set it up exactly that way.

DeerHunter 02-08-2009 03:26 PM

I'll have to do a bit more reading, but I haven't been too motivated since I parked the car for the winter. It's always easier to experiment and see what works. Come on, Spring...

y8s have you figured out VVT on 2.6 yet?

y8s 02-09-2009 08:49 PM

no. give me a 2.6 and i'll work on it?

soflarick 08-22-2009 10:13 AM

Does the 2.6 update include a change from the serial port to a USB port?

bossman4 08-22-2009 12:12 PM

Yes the version I got from FM. Yes i have the EBC running on my MSM with 2.6. Did not realy have to change any settings when I upgraded from a 2.17.

Not according to the directions at FM's site. They still use serial and you need a converter

bossman4 08-22-2009 07:22 PM

The convertor comes with it.....

04 Miata 08-22-2009 07:44 PM

It might come with it but the unit is still serial and not USB.

The one I recieved failed after a few weeks of use. I have bought a new one that is better quality.
