Hydra For My '01 FM II Turbo?
 

I'm very new to all this so be gentle:laugh:.

Installed an FM II Turbo system (new then) on my 16k original miles 2001 last year. Turbo is a 2560. Also installed 3" Enthuza exhaust from downpipe back. ACT clutch installed at 10k miles. Only installed mechanicals. Didn't know what would be best for electronics at the time. Car has been driven up and down private road to keep lubed. Car is registered in MA where they plug in to OBD II every year or two.

At this point, I'm thinking I would shoot for whp of 210-220. Is that reasonable given above? Will I need bigger injectors?

I now have time to finish car and install engine controls. Is the Hydra the best option? Is it too cumbersome to do work around once a year for inspection (I pulled my engine and tranny to do turbo install, so I'm not afraid of some work).

What are major pros and cons with Hydra (version 2.6 I guess is the current one)? If you had to do all over again, would you do the Hydra again? If not Hydra what would be second choice? What's up with the WBO2 sensor? I read FM's manual last night and they said it costs $275 for replacement of the "lab grade" sensor. Can a substitute WBO2 be used now? I've got an LM-2 to use for tuning purposes and it uses a Bosch sensor, I think, that costs like 1/3 of this lab grade thingy.

Can you self-tune the Hydra starting from FM's base maps to, say 90%, of total perfomance, staying a bit conservative, or do you need to go to tuner with a dyno?

Nope, not a chance, if I was to start all over today I would go probably go with an Adaptronic.

I had a hydra and did it all over again with an Adaptronic... you wont likely pass OBDII with either, just FYI. Unless you're an electronics wizard.

Can you guys tell me why you like Adaptronic more than Hydra?

because it's half the price. functionality of ANY EMS is really within a pretty small window. They're all really similar.

I didn't want to pay $2000 for the hydra vs $700 I paid for my megasquirt. Same can probly be said for adaptronic users, I'm not sure how much it costs though.

Hold on a second. You had the Hydra and then you switched over to the Adaptronic because it's half the price? You didn't switch over because of technical reasons?

I know I need to do some homework here, but it seems that the Hydra is dependent upon an expensive WBO2 sensor that need frequent replacement (not sure if this is still true with the V2.6); I assume the Adaptronic uses a WBO2 as well (I know, I know I should have checked that before making this post) -- if so, is it the same type of expensive frequent replacement type of deal?

I switched because I had a 2.17 and didn't like some features that I use a lot (logging, inability to have an AFR gauge)

the Adaptronic uses any external WBO2. almost.
