Hydra won't run, crashes computer
 

I ordered the 3071 Hydra kit from FM. Everything is installed and I loaded the maps sent. Calibrated the wideband and TP sensor. Tried to start and ran like shit while my laptop keeps crashing. Got another map from FM and loaded it with my desktop and now it wont start with either map. Cleaned the new plugs from the soot collected on them and everything in the area from the short time it ran. While I was cleaning my plugs it crashed my desktop. The program runs fine just crashes while I'm connected to the ECU.

I am beginning to think my Hydra is tits up. I followed the steps in the FM set up manual and have read most of the manual for the Hydra. I checked my install and everything is put together properly. WTF I wan't to drive it.

Bad serial port on the laptop, usb-to-serial adapter or drivers issue. Your hydra wouldn't lock the laptop up.

Find another laptop and try using that.

Using my desktop now but loaded several maps and the bitch wont start now. Crank and crank, I get a pop out the exhaust sometimes and when I crank a long time it tries for a sec but never starts. I am going over all of my install now. I did find that my gasket on my EGR ppipe sliped off and was only on one hole. I fixed that but no change. I just dont get it. Could the plugs foul so bad that they dont fire? I pulled and cleaned them with a wire brush. Black and sooty, but I have seen worse fire.

What to check?????

I think your right. I looked at a couple of web sites to refresh my plug reading. I will try to drop my whole map a few clicks and see what happens. I am also going to pull my wideband and recheck the calibration. I am sure it will be covered in soot too, I am debating about cleaning it.

I thought it was rich and tried to hold the pedal to the floor but I don't know if the Hydra has the same feature as the factory computer on that aspect. It never cranked any different. I also pluged in the factory ECU to see if it would fire but no change there, but with the 750 injectors it may still be dumping the same fuel.

The Hydra crashed my desktop earlier. This is the second time on the desktop. I gave up on the laptop after the 5th or 6th time. I wonder if it's from the engine not running. That has me worried.

One of my friends bought the hydra for his msm, and he bought one of those acer netbooks to run it. The thing would crash constantly, and we tried quite a few different USB adapters. I ended up lending him my old ass dell laptop with a built in serial port and everything worked fine.

I am using the Eee also. When I spoke with Jeremy at FM he said the one he tried ran fine. So, I wonder what is causing it. I am hoping it is a setting problem that I can figure out because my auto-tune key is on it. It is also the only laptop I have. I don't want to buy another. A friend loaned me his laptop, it is huge. I can't sit in the seat and fit comfortably like my Eee.

I read on the Hydra site about the speed that the information is passing is too fast from the laptop to the ECU and that setting your port speed could fix it. I am not that smart about that shit and dont know how true that is but it makes since to me. My old desktop is almost 10 years old and you are saying you have an old Dell. Maybe the 2.0 USB is jamming it too fast.

Their bullshit software wont run on xp pro on my tuner's toughbook. Crashes with a not enough memory runtime. Shit's annoying as hell.

I sold / fixed computers for 12 years, and I tried a ton of stuff on his EEE with no success. I honestly really just think the hydra software isn't programmed very well. Out of all the standalones I've used, the interface is by far the worst.

I got it running. The problem was that it wasen't just one problem. The map sent was rich and I had a vacume leak. That was from the EGR gasket that slipped off one of the studs. Those two problems caused the plugs to foul and then I tried richening before going leaner. That ruined the plugs and they just wouldn't fire. I replaced the plugs, lowered the whole fuel map by 3 clicks (page down) recalibrated the wideband and it fired right up.

I am way over boosting, it shot up so quick I saw 15 before I caught it. I pulled off the manual boost controller and have only the wastegate hose connected now. The manual says it is a 9psi wastgate, I'll find out tomorrow. I am going to try some auto tuning too.

The thing is very strong from my short drive. It was raining pretty good and 3rd felt slippery even on my big ass tires. I never got it above 5000rpm it would boost to high. The exhaust sure talks to you, the thing sounds like a race car when you rev it high. Under cruse though it isn't too bad but it is much louder than the factory pipes. This is going to be a very fun car now. Roebling Road here I come.

Cool, I got my Eee working. I uninstalled everything. Hooked it to the
hydra and reinstalled the driver. As per the instructions on the CD. Then I wen't to my device settings while hooked up and reduced the speed it transfers and recieves information. Then I reinstalled the Hydra software.
