Hydra's ability to autotune???
 
So i'm going to upgrade my exhaust and turbo soon, but before I get a chance to get to the dyno, will the car be safe to drive at the same boost level or will I need to drop the boost down to like 10psi or can the Hydra autotune the map? Obviously I will take the car to the person who tuned it before... but it'll be a week or two after I get the new parts.

I assume you're going with less restrictive exhaust and that 2871 finally? Yeah car will be safe to drive, but not safe to hammer on. A little boost shouldn't hurt nuthin but take it pretty easy. You've got wideband integration working right? Start datalogging and go from there.

if you have the hydra-specfic autotune/wideband deal, you're ready to go.

dial in your AFRs
warm the car up
open the software and upload from ECU to PC
in settings, turn on autotune
set the autotune rate for a street-friendly 16-20 in all rpm ranges,
save and download (restart the car) and go drive. avoid triggering enrichments if you can, but it shouldn't make too much difference.

if you can, do a couple full rpm sweeps at various loads

then park (LEAVE THE CAR RUNNING!), upload the map from the ECU to the PC
go into settings and turn off autotune.
save the map (I save in the format YYYYMMDD_001_description)
then download it from the PC to the ECU

note that you HAVE TO pull the map off the ECU before shutting off the car to get the autotune changes. they are volatile and NOT reflected in the software prior to the upload from the ECU. which is why you wanna leave the car running when you upload to PC

all that said, the ECU is pretty good at autotuning. though I'd be careful at high boost, up to 10 psi is not a big deal if you've already got a decent map as a baseline.

Agree with y8s. I actually set the autotune to not try to do anything above 5k rpm. It is good for setting the 'around town' settings, but I manually tune all of the boost settings.

I am starting a remap tomorrow since I put in a bigger fuel pump and all of my settings are off. I started the car in the garage the other day and probably had enough fuel coming out the exhaust for a flame thrower :( Should give me some more fuel to play with and hopefully make it so I don't need to run the crazy high duty cycles on my injectors anymore.

meh, sounds like i'll be turning the boost down to 9-10 psi until I can get on the dyno and aim for 320-330rwhp.

Y8 I have a few newb questions for you. How do you set the rpm ranges? I looked but don't see that. I tried to autotune yesterday and was sucessful in the lower RPM ranges but I never got the yellow circles in the high RPM high boost areas.

Before I save the VE map how level do I need it to be? I just smothed the small bumps out but the map has some big hills and valleys that dont look right.

I tried to attach a file here but I get invalid file and it wont upload. What do I need to do to upload my map and datalog?

this is only for 2.1/2.5. The RPM ranges are in the settings menu under "closed loop". you can pick a max and min.

you also have an "autotune rate" in one of the control menus. For street tuning, try to keep it above about 30 or you'll get bad values based on transient conditions. the lower the value, the faster it makes map changes. but the less likely they are accurate. on a dyno, you can drop the value to 15 or 20.

as for hitting all the cell values, you have to drive in them for enough time. on the street you may find that you can't hold 7000 rpm and max boost for more than a few seconds without getting into trouble. find a steep hill and use a lower gear.

as far as leveling the map out, use the autotuned cells as a baseline and bring the other cells to that same or similar level. it doesn't need to be perfectly flat or smooth, you just want to avoid having large steps in adjacent cells.

Yea, anything above 5500 is getting no tune. In 1st -3rd it is happening to fast and 4th and 5th I am going to fast. The interstate speed here is 70 so 80 or 90 is all I want to push it. I tried to ride the brakes in 4th but I don't want to overheat the brakes. I am going to have to get it to the dyno.

I looked for both of those settings and I didn't see either. I will look through the manual and see what I can find. My VE map falls off at the high RPM limit which has me wondering if I should fill it in. I am trying to work it out in my head what the map is actually telling me.
