Nemesis help please
Hey
Guys so Jon and I are at start up time. We are having a bit of problems with downloading the correct version to the lab top. Version 2.7r31 will download fine and communicate for a moment. Then I get kicked off? We need version 2.7r76 but it will not download. Have any of you fine fellas had an issue. With this? Any help would be much appreciated! |
Nope none.
Issue is from hydra website to your comp or your comp to the hydra? How do you even have R31? WTF? When did you buy your hydra? |
Can you confirm what firmware version the Hydra is running?
Your Hydra dealer should be able to help you out. What country are you in? |
The problem turned out to be the quality of the USB to RS232 converter dongle. The $8 and the $20 connectors didn't work, so I got the $40 version with the FTDI chipset and that solved the problem. Of course, the installation instructions mentioned that that might be the case but we were hoping to get results with what was locally available. "When all else fails, read the instructions." Doh! So we finally got some results, but now we're stuck again- Our theory is that after I ordered the FM II, we upgraded the fuel pump from stock to the Walbro 255 lph and installed a BEGi fuel rail. It has a remote fuel distribution block that we mounted on the firewall and AN fittings and stainless lines to each injector with a feature that I particularly liked, a reservoir at each injector. Looks slick as hell, but it turns out that apparently Begi had not sold one for a 99 engine and there wasn't enough clearance to the intake manifold. So Corky was kind enough to spend a weekend in the shop doing a redesign and machining a mount for the stock fuel pressure regulator in the middle of the distribution block (I'm using a dual feed setup) so I could keep my fuel return. I like having the FPR right there on the firewall. We got a start last weekend, but it ran about 30 seconds and died and we can't get it to start again. So we're guessing we're too rich. And of course, this stuff always happens on Saturday night. And Jay has been working seven days a week for the last month. But he's finally getting a couple of days off this next week (Tuesday and Wednesday) so we are planning to call Jeremy at FM Tuesday and see if we can get some help. Delay after delay!
I finally located the only load dyno in Reno and they have a tuner who has worked with earlier versions of the Hydra and is eager to play with the 2.7 version. We're trying to work out a price with them, but the manager apparently got run over in his own shop and has been off sick this last week. Oh, well, sooner (hopefully) or later, we'll get the beast going. Just got to keep slogging along. Jon |
Hmm k fellas,
so I spent some time on the phone, with the guy that is going to tune this car. After speaking with him I decided to take it back to the basics. First starting with the fuel pressure simple, and guess what? I have 49 psi on my feed line to the fuel block basically a fuel rail, And I am not getting any fuel to my return. I have tried switching to different vacum ports, to applying vacum to the regulator. Iv switched with another regulator. I still get nothing! I am currently reading alot! HAHA I am actually searching more than reading. Iv been workin 7 days a week for the past 2 months, and reading on this at night. Opinions,Facts even a little bit of info on the actually stock setup would be greatly appreciated! Thanks |
What fuel pressure regulator are you using with that 255 pump?
|
I am using the stock regulator. After some discusion with Corky Bell he felt it was safe enough.
|
We've found your problem.
The Walbro 255 with the stock FPR is a known quantity. The pump flows too much fuel for that regulator. Is it safe to run it? Yes: until the FPR fails, you'll run rich. After the FPR fails, you won't run. Either way, the motor isn't going to blow up on you. For the stock regulator, run a Walbro 190 or better yet, run a 190 HP. You should be good with the 190 until your power goes somewhere north of you needing a fuel cell, with E85 possibly being the exception. For the 255 pump, you're going to need an aftermarket regulator. |
Yes sir I do believe in what you have just said after doing a hand fuel of reading the past couple days, guess i just needed a refresher. I have hooked up 2 fuel gauges. I have 49 psi on my feed and I am getting no pressure on my return I believe i'm supposed to be at 43.5 psi. As a starting base for the forced induction. We are shooting for 15 psi. I have also applied direct vacumme to the regulators and have no change in my readings on the fuel pressure. I have personally always ran an adjustable regulator and my tuner has Handled it from there. I have not checked yet to know I that i have vacumme but by hooking direct vacumm to both stock regulators. I'm feeling comfortable saying they are no good! Sad face haha. It is sounding like Jons tuner will be out tomorrow to take a look so I hope with our knowledge combined. We can have a running mini monster. Thank you for your input
Its apreciated greatly. sorry for the spelling errors I am fried |
Update fellas I Picked up an AEM fuel pressure regulator. For a Honda sorry guys! I had to drill out one mounting hole a little bit, to fit our application (Begi fuel rail kit). So further on after setting my fuel pressure.(43.5) The hot rod came to life :)! Very happy I was to get that. I would like to thank you fogger03 for the assistance. I am in the tuning portion now. I have ran the car once. 5 miles rich in boost at 12.1 lean at idle 17-19. did some playing with my base idle trim. I now have 14.5 idle not moving and ranging 12-15 a/f on gas and cruising. My question would be can anyone point me to more insight on the tuning/ learning curve of the hydra I am new to tuning with the computer. I know how to work one and yes i know my basics. A little insight on some thing to look for could help and I need to advance the timing on this motor tips. Please and thank you guys. I Took it for small drive tonight 1st to 2nd quick shift she got loose but it was controllable! I may be considering the convert a bit more honda to miata that is.
Thanks Jay |
Glad to hear you've got it fixed up, Jay!
For tuning advice, your #1 resource is going to be FMs instruction manual. Your #2 resource is going to be posts or youtube videos by canyonfive. He has done some pioneering work with the hydra. Your #3 resource is a tie between elementtuning.com and hydraems.com. I say it's a tie because both resources are equally outdated when it comes to the 2.7. |
Thanks for the props... btw anymore webinars you would find helpful?

So I played with the base fuel trim some more last night. I managed to get a 14.7 constant at idle. I advanced my timing. I am getting a stumble as I accelerate , at take off (leaning out) I am also not able to move from pid to pid. For some reason I dont know what happend, but i'v gone to closed loop long term. I have takin it out for a few runs and done some data logging. I'm gonna call Jeremy Monday to seek advice.
Question though guys? I need to get the VICS Wired in. In the manual it reads.... 94-97 cars have a (FPR) solenoid? I need the wires from that solenoid to wire in, and I am not sure what there talking about. Iv looked at wiring diagrams and online. No luck, any assistance. Thanks |
In a stock car, the FPR solenoid is connected to the Fuel Pressure Regulator via a vacuum line. Incidentally, that was one of the first things I ditched on my car years ago. The connector looks like a retarded transformer icon - at least thats what I always imagined. In the picture, this dude is holding that connector with his pinky.
https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...p-dsc00252-jpg This is a 2-wire joint. Cut those wires and attach them to your VICS solenoid. There is no polarity. |
Perfect i'm going to work on it now.
Thank you |
Well I got it wired in. Looks like it has solved the stumble Issue for the most part thank you again.
Jay |
Well we are running and tuning. I have good A/F ratios and there getting better. I' just curious what kind of fuel pressure should I be running? 255 walbro pump begi fuel rail kit with 700cc injectors. Were going up to 15psi boost... Aem adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
|
Never mind guys.
