Overboost protection not working?

Per this thread, https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...104#post672104 , I noticed that my Hydra didn't do anything when my boost went beyond it's normal psi. I have it set to 14.5psi and tonight I saw my boost gauge tickle the 20psi mark. Shouldn't the Hydra have cut ignition to prevent any damage? Is there another option/setting I need to look at other than the setting accesd by "select -> Control 2 -> Boost target" ??? Is there another setting I need to look at?

Have you called FM yet?

Does your Hydra know that it's getting 20 psi? Run a log. If your target is set at 14.5psi, then your log should be showing fuel cut at 17.5 psi. (or rather, you shouldn't see manifold pressure over 17.5 psi on the log) also, does your boost gauge have the same signal source as your ECU? Finally, check your ECU signal hose for holes by putting something like a sportsball hand pump on the manifold end of the hose and watching the boost gauge (which is "t"d off of the ecu hose). Aim for about 20 psi on the gauge and see if it holds.

I need to log data. But yes, the boost gauge and the MAP are on the same source.

So by what you're saying is that Hydra automatically has 3psi of overboost protection? So if I were to go in and set boost target to 10psi I shouldn't be able to get above 13psi? Since i'm not using the EBC, will chaning the boost target effect anything else or is that only for boost cut?

I'll call FM and hope they're open...

Correct; there is a 3psi buffer between your boost target and overboost protection - If you want to see fuel cut at 13 psi, then you should set your boost target to 10 psi.

At least that's the theory behind it.

Ah..the plot thickens. I'm guessing my boost gauge has to be off or something strange for me to see 20psi on it and not have tripped the 17.5psi overboost protection. I will, however, set it down low and "trip" it at a safe level to make sure it is indeed working properly. If so, I'll know the boost gauge was seeing/doing something it shouldn't be and take the needed steps to fix that (probably with a new gauge and maybe plan on relocating boost signal to post-intercooler again...didn't like it the first time around).

If you set overboost protection to 17.5, it will cut boost at 20.5psi.

Log ASAP, and watch the gauge at the same time.

I doubt your MAP signal is off because otherwise you would be pinging all over the place. Which the hydra should pick up as well.
