Default LCD TV wall mounts

Hey guys, looking for some help on picking out a wall mount. I have ZERO experience with this stuff and I'm kinda nervous about hanging a tv off the wall. I am probably going to pick the TV up within in the next week or so once I've made the decision that its the one. Samsung 40" 1080p LCD HDTV. It seems like ebay has mounts for 1/3 of the price the retailers sell them for. Does anyone have any good recommendations? Anyone buy a mount off ebay that they like?

This is the mount I was thinking about getting.

I want to put this over the fireplace, but I'm not looking to spend $200-$500 on a mount. I would rather just put the TV someplace else.

I bought a wall mount for a 20" LCD off of ebay once. I will never again though. It was the biggest piece of crap. It could never hold the screen upright, soon as you tightened it and let it go the tv would always tilt down. I certainly wouldn't trust any of them to hold a 40".

I also wouldn't even want to mount it, Id much rather pay whom ever your getting it from to mount it. That way if it does happen to fall it's on them. Just my .02.

No matter what unit you decide to get, you will need some drywall anchors that can support 50+ lbs. Ideally, you will want to find the studs in the walls and secure the mount to those for more stability and strength.

Doesn't mounting above a fireplace normally void the warranty?

Monoprice.com has great prices on wall mounts. Very sturdy. Bought three in various sizes (one for myself, one for my parents, and one for my girlfriend)- all very sturdy.

No affiliation, just a satisfied customer.

We use Pearless mounts for all our installs for my work. From 17" touchscreens to 60" Samsung LCDs. They are of excellent build quality.

Go to best buy or equivalent retailer. Buy a mount. The end. Peerless, Sanus, or whatever brand is in stock. There is no rocket science here.

The rocket science is buying one from monoprice.com for under $50 shipped instead of paying $125 + tax at a local store.

Yea, I was really just looking for ideas on non-expensive mounts. I'm not trying to spend a ton on a mount, I don't care what the brand is as long as it holds the weight. I could really give a **** less if it hangs from the wall. It'd probably be cheaper for me to cut into the drywall and mount it flush. I know its not rocket science, its ******* hanging a TV on the wall....

I'm gonna head to some stores tonight to check out pricing. I'm trying to fit like 10 big items in my budget right now and its getting tight. I'm re-buying alot of **** that I left at the farm I was living at....like everything.

P.S. I love cat pictures

I've seen them for pretty cheap at retail stores. The rocket science is buying one right now and hanging the tv on the wall before BSG comes on at 10.

Thanks for the links to those mounts guys. I told the dudes at Bernies lastnight that I can buy a mount for 1/4 what they sell them for! I will say this, I spent a couple hours online researching **** and I knew more than the doofus teenage kid trying to sell me the ******* TV! lol

I'm having a hard time deciding on what I want though. The sale on Samsung TVs ends today, so I need to make up my mind by tonight!

I initially went for the 40" LCD Samsung. Then I had my heart set on a 50" plasma Hitachi that was $2100 on sale for $999! But I came home and measured and there's no way I'll be able to make it fit where I want to put it.

So now its between a 42" 720p plasma Samsung, a 40" 1080p LCD Sony Bravia, or the one I went for originally, the 40" 1080p LCD Samsung. They are all around the same price just under $1k, and all of them are a huge step up from my Sony trinitron that I've had for years. I just don't know whats the better decision....

Any advice?

I bought a 42" panasonic plasma in 2007 because my wife didn't want a front projector. I settled on that size because it's of sufficient size to display the same picture size (at 4:3) as the Sony 32" tube tv that it replaced.

Within a few months, though I decided I didn't want the wife. So I got a divorce and bought a front projector.

For just under $1k, I procured a Mitsubishi HC1500 and a 100" screen.

I'd take a plasma over an lcd if we're talking panel televions. But I'd take a decent front projector over either.

You musts be my brother from another mother. I've got a 42 inch Panny Plasma over the fireplace hung by a monoprice mount and am still sporting an Infocus 4805 FP in the basement on my 100 inch screen.

I'm waiting on the bulb to go south to replace that but it's been good to me.

Would that be the Samsung 1080 LCD or the 720 Plasma?

Well lastnight came and went and I couldn't make up my mind so I went with nothing. I still have furniture I need to buy, that electric fireplace ****, have an electrician put in more plugs, etc. I don't want to rush on a TV and end up getting one I don't love. So if I have to pay another hundred or so a couple weeks from now....ohh well.

I will say its nice to step away from spending money on the miata for a minute and buy some stuff for the home. Kinda makes me forget about the miata....
