Default 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 Review

Went and drove a 2011 GT today. After all the good things I've heard about the new 5.0 (coyote) motor I started reading up on them the last few months. The more I read on the boards the more impressed I've gotten. Anyways I stopped by the dealership today and the had a black on black leather, 3.73 gears (400.00?), Brembo (1600.00?), and 19" wheels with 255 pzeros (2100.00?). I would pay for those brakes and the gears but not the wheels.

My first impression getting in the car was that the interior was nicer than I expected for a Ford. The seats were nicer more like a BMW. The dash area has a little of that cheap plastic feel but not bad. The ride was very smooth like a luxury car over bumps and cracks. The low throttle sound was low, mean, and quite. The car seemed to handle well with the few turns I took in it. Felt a little heavy before it took a set, but after that felt good. The motor was AMAZING. When you hit 5k it throws you back in the seat real hard, very impressed with the smooth power. Doing a pull on the freeway from 50- to redline in 3rd was awesome. You can feel the car lifting up from the driveline torque.

If it wasn't 34k I might get one. Not that 34k is too pricey for how loaded this car was. I just dont want a $700 payment. When these things are 3 years old and going for 15-20k watch out.

Yea, they are ok looking. There is some idiot local to me cruising around in one like his **** dont stink. The 5.0 badge seems too big.

My love for the mustang really slid off at the end of 2003 with the Cobra.

I have a 93 5.0 . Most of the time I dream of filling it with as many local mustang enthusiasts and pushing it off a cliff.

I don't like the look of the new stang. I liked the last body style better. Aside from that, mustangs are "me too" cars. I could come in to work and hear a locker room conversation that goes like,
broski #1 "yo dude, how was your weekend?"
broski #2 " it was great, I put a flowmaster exhaust on my mustang"
broski #1 "no way! Me too!"

it's a common car where cheap bolt ons are easy to come by and give good gains. Nothing wrong with that. how many people here have 6ul's or some sort of magnaflow muffler setup? they are cheap for what they are and work, just like flowmasters on a mustang.

You guys should really go test drive one. They are a lot more car than they appear. Also as a bonus when the motor breaks in they are dynoing 390whp. You can also get 50whp with a full exhaust, intake, and tune. So with some bolt ons and 10k miles you can have almost 500 crank. Oh, and in that video the BMW has the handling package with I think different shocks, springs, and sway bars. If you put after market shocks, springs, sways on the Mustang it would kill that M3.

Ive had my '11 GT for about a month ad a half now, and Im still in love with it. Like you said the interior is pretty plasticy but not too bad, the seats are comfortable and nice bolstered, it handles nicely but also rides nicely.
Many people complain about the stereo but it sounds phenomenal compared to the ol' miata, so w/e. Ive also found that its a very quiet car, I drove my gfs beetle the other day and couldnt believe how loud it seemed. Ford did some great sound insulation without making it a total porker.

Mine is just the base model GT with the optional 3.73 gears, nothing else.

PS
Just got my new camcorder in the mail today from B&H, so ripper vids are on their way.

Awesome, what did that base go for 29-30? I think I would have done what you did with the 3.73's and then pick up Brembo's off a wrecked car and some after market wheels. I'm awaiting your ripper vids!

I played hardball for 3 ******* hours telling them I wouldnt go over 30. It was initially like 31k, eventually got them down to just a couple hundred over 30.
That was with a new tag and whatnot too.
So I didnt do too bad, this was the first new car Ive ever bought.

This right here, even though the '11 GT is excellent. The 2011 Coyote V8 is like the original '97 GM LS1, it's only the beginning. There are direct injection bosses in the Coyote head casting, the upcoming BOSS 302 makes 440 hp without D.I. either.

Ford has amazing stuff in the Mustang pipeline, realistically challenging the Corvette for "best bang for the buck" stock performance car. With direct injection, more compression, better EM & VCT tuning & their newest composite intake's, a 500 hp NA 5.0L could be delivered, affordably. (Low $40K range)

I find this pretty damn cool, the LSx family has a serious rival in the terms of power, weight & soon cost. Good job Ford.

Yah dude, its a seriously wide engine. No way it would fit in a miata.

Big *** engine isn't the word for it. A cylinder head from one of them is like the size of a miata 4 cylinder!

I agree, the Mustang will be the king...hopefully considering all that stock I bought in them back in November 2008.

Please tell me your kidding. If you did good for you. Everyday in Nov of '08 I considered buying some Ford stock because it was cheaper than a gallon of milk. Now I kick myself for not doing it. If you do actually have a bunch of ford stock that you bought for $2 share, at what price are you planning on dumping it? $20? $25?

God I hate myself.

Yep, I bought a few shares at $2.02 after fees. I'm probably going to hang on to those cards for a while...I unloading my house savings-fund on that buy and would have bought more if I didn't just finish a $10k Miata build. My father was pretty upset considering he sports a Chevy bow-tie encrusted ring, lol. As of today I've doubled my money.

I admit I have little understanding of how direct injection actually works (I can imagine however), I don't see how they will fit an injector in there. I have a coyote head here on my desk at work and there's a boss between the exhaust valves but no real estate above that boss for an injector (i.e. if you took a drill bit and drilled smack center in that boss you'd drill through things you don't want to). I would assume 1. the injector takes up some amount of space 2. the boss inside the cylinder should be by the intake valves but who knows what the flow is inside that chamber 3. there should be some sort of fuel rail cast into the block, kinda like an oil galley? Or do these direct injectors stick up through the valve covers? Ehh whatever.
