1963 Falcon 2dr Wagon

Guy in Benicia has one for sale. He is asking $1200 for the roach. He claims no serious cancer, and an engine that was rebuilt 2-3 years ago. The car's interior is trashed, has a mangled left front fender. It has the 240 6 with the 3 on the tree std. 5 lug wheels, and all the glass is straight. Thinking of heading up there Saturday with $800 cash and see if he bites. He has had it for sale for a couple of months now.

Plans would be to drop it in the weeds, black out tint, maybe turbo the 6 or drop a V8 in it. Leave the body the way it is, with some mexican blankets on the seats. Make a little sleeper out of it.

too bad it doesn't have the 260 V8 in it. my dad had a falcon ranchero of that era that was a badass tire spinner.

I've been seeing a few on CL locally. These cars are nice, if you can find one without the cancer you mentioned (and without any previous shoddy work and/or stupid-idea mods). Considering one of them myself, but I'm holding out for a 4-door wagon 'cause of the kids. Had to pass up a clean OEM '72 Vista Cruiser, and a '69 Sport Wagon, because they were too far away.

I think turboing the I-6 would be cooler than a V8 (quite a bit more work, though). If I had $1200, and the room, I would go for it if the interior metal is similar to the outside (i.e. no Flintstones feet-holes and things like that).

Definately nothing wrong with the Falcon's for sure. Uncle campaigned an electric driven dragster for many years.

no flinstone holes, but there is some floor rot. There are two serious spots that he took pictures of, lookes like they could be fixed with 2" square piece of sheet metal.

I like the idea of moding the inline six as well. Been surfing fleabay looking at Offy intakes and valve covers. There seem to be lots of performance parts for that old inline 6 still around.

Those inline sixes are damn near bulletproof on the bottom end. Dad drove a '63 coupe for many years, and it started right up every morning on the first try. Put well over 150k on it, back when 100k was a lot of miles for a car.

The only reason he didn't keep driving it was because he was rear-ended at a stoplight, and the whole car was mashed, right up to the back of the driver's seat. He pulled the 6, and sold it to some kid who put another 50k on it before it died.

He later got a '68 Falcon, but that one was a pale shadow of the first one.

That wagon looks pretty good, really. If you can score it for $800 cash, why not??
...but please, ditch that column shifted 3-speed. Ugh!
Got to love the interchange with Mustang parts though. Makes life a little easier when you get around to upkeep & upgrades. ;)

I was thinking a New Process 4 spd through the floor like the Thunderbolt 500s had. Nice thing is it should bolt up right to the bell housing with no issues.

Qckslvr -

...and yet another coincidence. I found a white on red '63 Falcon Futura 'vert with the inline-6 and 4 on the floor today.

Now that the new job is looking solid, I am considering haggling for a reasonable price.

Guy who bought it was going to take it to College Station and paint it Aggie Maroon. *sigh*
