2000 Chevy Tracker
 

Does anybody have any experiences with Chevy Trackers? I just picked one up from a broke college girl for $850. She rear-ended someone and cracked the radiator. I went over it really well before handing over the massive sum and everything seems to be in good shape. It only has 108k.

My bro and his wife had a Tracker. It was in good condition, my bro cleaned up the soft top really well before selling it. Manual trans, no options, no A/C, nothing. A dealer bought it from him for like $3500 ish.

If it's in good shape, fix it and flip it, those things are desirable in some circles......




.... but I have no idea why. Thing was a friggin' horrible vehicle. I mean, it was reliable enough, but the fuel economy was terrible especially considering how gutless it was. No room, super noisy.... Glad they sold it. If I were shopping for a small 4X4 I'd go Jeep over one noooo question and I'd be willing to pay double for a Jeep too.

All i wanted was a cheap vehicle to get to work with. Price was really the only factor. Mission accomplished on that front.

I have a 38 mile commute and I was sick of putting that on my miatas, so $850 for a mileage-whore works for me.

Better plan: Fix it, sell it for significant profit, buy something that's less punishment to drive to work and back... Miata #3? Hehe....

I could sell it but this thing seems pretty practical. I haven't had anything other than a miata for 5 years now. It is kind of nice to have some cargo capacity. Make no mistake, I will be fixing it and doing long-overdue maintenance, so if I can make a good chunk of change off of it, I certainly will.

Known for starter issues (not really a big job, but you have to go by feel), and they rot out quite badly.




As said above, they can go for stupid money in some circles.

I did read that, but AFAIK, it was for the first generation. The 2000 I picked up is the second generation.

People still pay lots. Small, and 4wd, is a desirable combo to some.



Does yours have the suzuki v6? Just curious.

Wife has an '04. Not bad, but built somewhat cheaply. I've had to replace 2 outside and one inside door handles. Also, rear hatch/door handle rusted, so I replaced that as well.

Some of it is easy, but some things are a real pain. Had to pull the radiator, fan and shroud to get to the belts to change them. Replacing the starter was an exercise in frustration, as it is nearly impossible to get to.

But, it runs well, doesn't burn a drop of oil, gets decent mileage, and has plenty of room for my wife and kid.

No, mine is the 2.0 four. It is rated at 130 hp. I am glad it wasn't the 1.6 lol.

I will be pulling the radiator/fan stuff shortly, so I will go ahead and change the belts too, thanks.

The door handles also feel pretty weak, so I might have to replace those as well.

I gave it a quick wash earlier and I could make the thing look basically brand new if I got after it with a buffer and clay bar. It has stuff caked on everywhere and the white paint has stained a lot, but I can fix that. The crash damage in the front is worse than I thought it was, but the parts I am finding are pretty damn cheap, so I should be ok.

Ebay for the handles, cheapest I could find. Fit perfectly, no issues.
