2001 Audi S4 with 133k
I've always had a hard on for these cars, granted I've never even been in one before let alone drive one.
Its a 01' with 133k "claimed" highway miles. Female owned and driven. Says it looks and performs like new. Price is so good I might go check it out. What do you guys think? Just looking for some feedback. :bigtu: |
As a former Audi Technician.... if maintenance was done on time, they will run for a long time... but any future maintenance will be expensive, and unless you have a lot of special tools, will need to be done by the dealer. I love that year S4 though. We didn't see to many come in for anything major.
Most the ones that had problems were the 2002+ S4s. The people that will tell you bad experiences about the 2001 probably didn't get any of the recalls done, and probably didn't get the car serviced at an Audi dealer... believe it or not, even for just oil changes oil isn't the only thing we change. |
Watch for blown turbos.
|
I always thought those were GREAT cars. Never had one, never could afford one...but seems to me like what a sport sedan should be. Comfy, semi-practical, understated, and more under the bonnet than the casual observer would guess.
Hefty, sure, but that's why we have Miatas. I can't imagine it being cheap to own and maintain, but it shouldn't be a nightmare seeing how well you treat yours. |
Do these indeed share the same drive train as the allroad? I heard this from a source of questionable credibility.
If so, my buddy's allroad blew a turbo at >90k. I doubt he was very particular about the maintenance, however. He took it to the dealer and they said the turbo blew up and shot pieces of metal into his intake mani lol. |
Upgrades will cost a small fortune aswell..
I can say, however, with upgraded turbos, full exhaust, and a good intake.. Watch out!! :D |
I'm pretty much dead set on not modding my next DD. I went a little overboard on the miata, and I'm still not done.
I just need another DD that is NOT the miata and that has a backseat and some actual space, also the AWD is a nice touch for us in the snow states. Only thing I would probably do is window tint and wheels, if that. I would attempt to do any maintenance it needed myself, just because I'm like that. I have heard audi services will charge you out the ass for basically anything they do though. I'm just slightly scarred about the 133k part. Here's a couple pics of the car in question. http://images.cars.com/supersized/DMI/192239/32233.jpg http://images.cars.com/supersized/DM...9/32233.05.jpg |
get it, get giac chip. Call it a day.
Those cars are great, however its prob due for a timing belt and/or turbo's |
Stay away from the automatic!! One of my old clients owned a transmission shop and he loved doing Audi warranty work, they would charge $8k-12k for a new drivetrain.
|
...Auto? PASS!
I would take the VIN to Audi and see if they could see what has been done as far as maintenance. At 133K I would be surprised if the Turbos haven't been replaced/rebuilt already. Also I hope this car is going for less then 10K. |
The turbos will need to be replaced if they haven't as mentioned already, and they are not easy to get to.
I love the S4s. That was going to be my next step after my modded A4, but I went with a Suby Forester XT for price/mod potential and online community. Sort of still regret that decision though my Forester was pretty badass. Frank |

Yea I know its not the 6-speed, but I already have the miata for my toy. Like I said this would simply be a get around car. Or are you guys saying pass on the auto tranny cause it is more likely to fail over a 6MT?
I wouldn't mind having another MT car, but a 5-speed tiptronic doesn't sound too bad for a daily. They want $7999. I would assume I could get at least another $500 off that price. |

lol
I would rather keep things how they are than drive a crx, its just not my style. But at the same time I don't need another money pit in the driveway. I've been reading up on audi throughout the day. Seems to be mixed feelings on them, but you'll find that on every make of car. Even miatas have a bad rep from some.....can you believe it! I checked through ebay a little and found this Attachment 205932 |
high mileage. not very reliable. expensive to fix. high asking price.
I wouldn't advise you get one. A buddy of mine is trying to get rid of his: had nothing but problems with it, and its got 80k miles on it. |
