Default 2015 Ford Mustang

Article with some new confirmed information here:

2015 Ford Mustang Details Surface | AutoGuide.com News

With Ford's plans to make the mustang a global platform I am curious what direction they take one of the most iconic American cars. To even have a chance in Europe of real sales I assume it is going to have to shrink quite a bit and become more of a proper sports car instead of a pony car. This might alienate some of the market here in the States while also drawing in new customers. I for one would love it if they gave it a much better interior quality and put it on a diet. The new independent rear suspension is also pretty sexy if they do it properly. What are everyone else's thoughts?

If they got it down to sub 3300lb that would be splendid.

But that will never happen so I'll keep not caring about them.

I am a fan of the current Mustang line-up...really. I'm watching this one with interest.

Hmm i hate the current model of the mustang however this one seems quite nice. The head lights seem to be ripped off from the evo though.

Can't tell a lot from the camo, but the overall lines look good. Looks like they are shrinking it down instead of going the route of Dodge and Chevy.

I dunno...there is something about them that I cannot put my finger on as to why I like them.

I'm with these two idiots. The current Mustang is a ridiculous value on paper and can really look quite good (in my opinion; see Dopple's post). There is just something about it that misses the mark for me in its current iteration.

If it looks as good as the Evos concept and they can bring the weight down to ~3300 lbs or so, I'd be very interested.

It'll be interesting to see the final product and the reactions. To sell in Europe, I would think they would need to consider a turbo-4 cylinder as a base option and that might mean they cut the weight to accomodate the smaller engine and higher fuel economy requirements.

Base Mustang with a 1L 3-cylinder ecoboost?

OK maybe that's going a bit too far.

+1 LOL!

You all realize that the image in the article is not the final design and was just a concept right? The change will more then likely not be that dramatic. I love the way the current ones look from the outside but I think the interior is very lacking. I also think it is a pig.

a 4 cylinder mustang is "classic"

a 4 cylinder turbo mustang is "nouveau classique" and a great idea.

Hell, call it 3200 lbs and 250 hp as a base model.

I hope the next mustang has a couple thousand veyron stomping horsepower and sells for around $10k, that way I can pick up a nice coyote powered model on the cheap

Can I ask (and biased as someone who owned a '13 GT Mustang with the Track Pack), why do people give a damn what the ******* dash feels like in a car?

I can't think of any car I've ever owned where I spent time caressing the dash wishing it was made of the finest Corinthian leather. Or rubbing the door cards wishing it was suede.

Steering wheel and shift **** were leather, seats were comfy, and pedals nicely spaced for heel/toe...... + a ridiculous engine and far better handling than should be available with a stick axle. I bought my track pack (special ordered) out the door for $30k.......but then complain about the dash? lulz

The EcoBoost rumor is a proposed reboot of the SVO nameplate.

I suspect the weight targets people (myself included) want won't be able to be matched without making it physically smaller, which would be nice. But the S197, especially the 11+ cars, are insanely rigid chassis wise.

If the interior that I spend most of my timing look at (of course not directly since I'm driving) is ugly, it takes away some of the sense of goodness. It doesn't have to be high-tech and flashy. Even a simple set up that doesn't make my eyes want to puke would be acceptable.

I just do not understand why the current car has to be so gianormous. The generation I grew up with in the 80's and 90's seemed to be the perfect size for a pony car.

This. Many new cars, especially American and Korean cars, are filled with cheap looking hard plastics and terrible ergonomics. It looks like **** and makes me enjoy the car less. My mazdaspeed does not have a phenomenal interior IMO but it is nice for what it is and it is simple.

I owned a 2010 Speed 3, the interior was miserable and made of horrifically cheap materials. When I traded it in at 16k miles the bolsters were already showing very noticeable wear, almost as bad as my 350Z.

I think the interior in my Mustang was far nicer to live with:

I like my '11

Id like it more if it was lighter and had IRS, but for what it costs, I cant complain.
The suspension is a lot more well sorted than the older mustangs.

They said the new one is supposed to be smaller and lighter, but Ill ebleive it when I see it.
