240sx Forum gone forever

I’ve been on miataturbo.net for 15+ years under various names. Time goes by and I lose the email or password or whatever and have to make a new account. I’ve learned so much from this website, starting as a 15yo boy that my daddy bought me a supercharged Miata. I made all kinds of wild claims and got my lunch eaten by you boys. But I learned.

zilvia.net is similar to this forum, but for 240sx. A MASSIVE database of any and everything you could possibly imagine. Hundreds of pages of detailed engine swaps, builds, projects, etc. Most recently I’d go on and see hundreds of people viewing the classifieds at a given time.

Apparently the owner of that domain has allowed it to expire (I’m not entirely sure how that works) some members have tried desperately to get ahold of this person, to get ownership of the domain or whatever so that we can get the website back up. For about 6 months it would go up and down every few days. Now it’s been several months of just “database error” when you try to access the website. I’m not even sure the owner is even involved in these cars anymore or even knows or cares that the website is down.

So I just hope that one day when the owners or whoever runs THIS forum gets old and has no interest in maintaining the website anymore and has moved on with their life, that they will not let miataturbo meet the same fate as zilvia. There’s so much useful info on here, I can find just about anything on this website that I’m looking for an answer to. Thousands of hours of effort by members over the years gone to waste. I would hate to see that happen to this forum

Another more recent "loss" in the Miata community is the Cool Breeze Scoop business that used to sell air scoops that directed air down into the footwells. I have only seen two pop up used on Craigslist and Miata sales forums. I did a little searching and it seems he passed away and the family didn't have the interest or ability to pass the business information on. I'm fairly certain Moss Miata or Flyin' Miata might have been interested in purchasing the contact information for whatever company built them, or if there was a patent and actual business to have a chance to purchase and continue building them.Honestly I'm surprised nobody has stepped in with a new model and we're stuck with 3D printed knockoffs that have less than stellar reviews. Many didn't like the cool breeze scoop but now that I own an MSM I'd love to try one. I applied heatshield stuck inside the tunnel but the footwell air is still stagnant and a bit too warm.

Unfortunately, many people never write a will or whatever else legal documents might be helpful to families and friends, myself included. Last year a retired friend died after suffering for about eight years with a brain tumor that could never be totally removed. Two major brain surgeries, a stroke, and two gut surgeries to correct a birth defect blockage that had become a problem made him painfully aware of how little time he had left. Like his mother, he tied up every damn loose end before his end date (planned starvation). His two sons knew exactly what he wanted and other than staging and selling the house and his Mercedes car, Dave planned and paid for everything else to be handled. Many don't get that gradual decline to plan and prepare....

Oh man I didn't realize Zilvia was gone, that's crazy!!! Before I was a "Miata guy" I was a "SR20 guy" and had many B1X & P1X chassis Nissans. I dabbled a little in the 240 area having owned 3 different S13 coupes as well and Zilvia was an invaluable resource for 240 info for me. This will truly be a great loss if the information there is indeed lost forever.

Planned starvation? Like was just tired of dealing with the brain tumor bullshit and literally, deliberately starved to death? Or was this something related to the stomach blockage?

Wild.

Regarding OP's topic, I don't think that could happen with MT.net because they're owned by a conglomerate (internet brands). So if it ever shuts down, You'd probably have more warning I'd imagine. Or maybe not.

The Starion/Conquest forum has had something similar happen. For a month or two the forum was offline. No one knew why. Turns out the servers hosting the forum crashed and lost everything from 2015-2021. The forum is back up but years of write ups and knowledge were lost. Luckily some of it has been aquired using some website called way back machine which can load old pages.

It's a shame when knowledge is lost.

Lol, I'd go with "not". They'll just decide someday that the ad revenue isn't worth it and poof.

Add m3forum.net to the list of forums that have died due to DB issues over the years

While off topic, you asked...he was declining gradually as the non-malignant tumor continued to grow. Two surgeries and gamma radiation shrunk the tumor but they couldn't fully removed it, just bought him time. The stomach surgeries were unrelated and he was doing well until the second brain surgery and stroke during ICU recovery. The tumor had been pressing on nerves making it difficult to swallow and the stroke didn't help. He relearned how to walk and was able to drive but lost the ability to swallow which led to the feeding tube. After about 1.5 years of tube feeding he was weaker and in pain as the tumor continued growing. He got to the point of hospice care and decided starvation was going to be easier than waiting for the tumor and prolonging suffering.

I had been keeping my distance because of Covid-19 and didn't witness the last 9 months of decline. As soon as I heard of his choice I drove over to visit. He had stopped tube feeding and drinking what little water he could swallow or dribble down his throat without choking about 3-4 days prior to my visit. They inserted a catheter for a bag, prescribed strong pain meds, and sent him home with his two adult sons. From what I read it isn't a terrible way to die...he was hoping to die after 5-7 days but his sons said it took 10+ for his heart to give out. They said he'd been "sleeping" for a few days.

This thread just got me thinking how my friend was able to tie up loose ends and how the Cool Breeze Scoop guy might not have done so. Might explain why some things disappear unexpectedly.

Off topic but I found a 3D print file for a cool breeze scoop but it isn't as far designed as the original. I had one printed and it works ok but I found issues with it's cooling ability. I figured I could modify the file and make the necessary changes (less fins in the vent but thicker fins and more of a curved bottom) I may just do that and if it works well start providing them for people.
