41 MPG 1.5L Miata

1990 Mazda Miata

That's the crappiest looking "mint" engine I have seen...

The rims make me want to puke, but i would pay $2100 for it.

Sweet, the elusive B5!

Looks like walmart hub caps

rmcelwee 07-04-2009 10:32 PM

Just wrote him. 200K miles...

magnamx-5 07-04-2009 10:45 PM

what a tool

I'd want to look UNDER the car first..

But I'd probably give him 2k for it.. He can keep the 100$ hubcaps.

I see ads all the time shilling the great mileage they get. Usually they claim 37-38mpg. First Gaylord I've seen actually claiming over 40!

rmcelwee 07-05-2009 05:01 PM

I finished my 1.0L Geo Metro engine rebuild yesterday. First drive (although it was only 82 miles mostly hwy) calculated to 55 MPG. Hopefully I am not too far away from that. The car was getting around 34 with three burnt exhaust valves (not much compression at all) and a cracked piston. I added a +10 degree cam shaft sprocket and a fuel efficient cam grind to the engine build.

I really don't think most people have any clue how to calculate gas mileage.

rmcelwee 07-06-2009 05:03 AM

I am amazed with the number of people who tell me their Miata (M1) gets over 30 MPG. Are they all lying or do they just not know how to calculate it?

How do you calculate it?

I get just over 30mpg on club runs (they do include about 1.5hours on the highway to get up to the mountains). I wonder what I'd do if I tried to get good mileage.

I like how the car is red...but used to be white. I bet that paint is crappy too because if someone had it done right... a)th eengine bay would be red b) it would still be white.

I get 31-32 mpg on my N/A 1.8 during prolonged highway cruising with MS running 15.0-15.5:1 AFR. Mixed city/hwy it's more like 26-27. On the stock ECU it was about 1 mpg less all around. If someone claims over 30 mpg in town on a stock engine they are either bad at math or they upshift at 3000 rpm. A high percentage of the general motoring public never winds out the engine for fear of hurting it.

anyone who tells you their gas mileage from one tank of gas is giving you bad data. accept no less than 3 tanks full averaged over the total miles driven.

NA6C-Guy 07-06-2009 11:38 AM

The transmission is on a trans mission. What a retard. That engine looks like ass to be calling it "mint". To me, mint means something like under 10k miles.
