about to buy another miata v.f-you subaru

my outback's trans is flipping out. I'm tired of working on daily drivers more than my track car. So I was thinking, its going to suck to have such a tiny car for a daily again, but at least they are ultimately reliable.

Any thoughts? I'd really don't want to pull the trans in the outback...and I mean really don't want to especially considering I planned on building my miata next month.

Anyone know of good $3k, reliable commuter cars aside from honduh? Hell, I might just buy an old civic hatch.

kotomile 04-12-2008 06:13 PM

Shit, buy a civic if you want dead reliable, cheap transport. Even if you pop the engine, D series are a dime a dozen.

hustler 04-12-2008 06:15 PM

If i didn't have student loans I'd just go buy a fucking is250 like a fucking man.

Its kinda hard to find a civic hatch that hasn't been poz'd by ricers though.

My brothers got a '90 camry that he paid a grand for a few years back. Bought it with 130k...now has well over 200k on it. Talk about money well spent! You can thrash the hell out of it and it doesnt even care. Just keeps on going.

The_Pipefather 04-12-2008 06:56 PM

Late model Hyundai or Kia. 2002+ Elantra or Sonata, you can get those for under $5k.

i had an old 89 toyota that I drove daily the tranny would pop out of gear if you rolled off the throttle but other then that the thing was great, got it for 500 bucks and only had to replace the water pump the whole time I drove it.

patsmx5 04-12-2008 07:29 PM

old camry or corrola.

Vashthestampede 04-12-2008 07:42 PM

If I lived in texas and didnt have to ever worry about snow I would get a bike for my daily.

I did that for 18 months.. then bought my 300ZX. Bike for DD == bad idea, imo.

91-94 sentra se-r. Mine has 193k miles and runs strong with no problems at all.

mazdamitch333 04-14-2008 11:43 PM

buy a 90s proteg dx, was getting 35 plus mpg, ran forever, and ever

messiahx 04-15-2008 09:50 AM

+1 Protege DX. The 1.6L can handle boost pretty well, too.

Savington 04-15-2008 12:01 PM

I'm buying an E30 325i in the fall to daily drive so I can turn the Miata back into the project car.

miatamania 04-15-2008 12:25 PM

You have issues w/ transmissions don't you?

An E30 318is or 325is would be a sweet daily. Tell ya what, go buy a G60 rado as a daily ;)
