Nah, not really. Pens, especially the single piece ones like above are easy. The whole lot only took me 6-8 hours to do, and I wasn't really going all that fast. The hardest part is all the sanding.
Not related in any way, but an enjoyable way to spend a Friday off work. Penmaking!
I have been hunting, or at least going to the hunting camp for about 21 years now. My Father-in-Law, Don, invited me for the first time the year before I married his daughter. Don passed of cancer 2-1/2 years ago, and I haven't hunted for 4 or 5 years now. But I still go down to hang with the (old) guys, who are all friends of Don from way back. I'm the "kid" at 55! Since they're all getting up there in years, the camp (which is jointly owned) is now up for sale. So it may be the last time we all get together at the old place.
We built the cabin up there by hand (no electricity) with rough sawn red oak. I took home some of the leftover boards, and have had them stashed in the garage for well over a decade. Today I sawed off a chunk and cut it up into pen blanks. Bullet pens, because it is, after all, hunting camp. These all got made today, although I did some of the prep work last night.

I have only been kind of happy with the UR series robots. While they're easy as all get out to program and "collaboration" safe, their force control resolution is abysmal and their precision is only ok. Are you contracting the automation out or do you have an in-house group working on it?

One guy has been here for 4 or 5 weeks now doing setup.
It's pretty close, they were doing some training with an employee last week.
That end effector attachment is pretty questionable... Though given their (hirebotics) non-standard business model, I suppose it's not too surprising.
I'd be interested to know if this works out for you/your company in the long run. I've considered setting up automation for people on the side before, but I've no idea what the market is like as I've been doing it salaried for a single company for some time now.
I had a wonderful conversation with a dog walker today. My property and many others in our neighborhood have a (useless) sign to remind walkers to pick up after their dog. I was passing the back fence of my property on my way to work and I noticed a man and a dog stopped at my fence and the dog proceeded to relieve itself on my property. I stopped and reversed the car next to them. I asked the guy if he had bags for his dog because I have been picking up dog crap from that spot from careless dog walkers in the past. He told me his name and that he is 35 years old and does carry them. I don't know what age has to do with it, I've seen older people not pick up after their pet, but I'm assuming he might have issues because he thinks he is old enough to have the sense to carry bags and walk a dog. I told him its all good and that there are homeowners here that are watching for careless dog walkers. He said **** you and walked away. I'm like WTF? He clearly does not live in our area and it turns out his dog took a ****. Oh well. What a great way to start the week.
