I suck at taking night shots, but here's to the only good reason for being in Alaska this time of year. |
Niiice. Gotta do it without a flash with the cam sitting flat on the ground with a timer on.
On a side note can you see Russia from there? |
Get a tripod, aperture wide open and put the lens on infinity and then turn the focus 1mm back. ISO 4-800 depending on light intensity, then adjust exposure time for brightness.

It's not the bears you need to worry about - it's hunters. Some guys pass time waiting for a deer or turkey to wander by with a 12-pk. Makes walking in the woods a bit riskier.

It was only a six pack, I swear.

You need a tripod, much more exposure time, and much less ISO. Dark noise is brutal on little point n shoots, especially with long exposures.

Ah, a point and shoot. The reason why you're getting such grainy images is that the sensor is a lot smaller than the ones on the dslr's. So they're more prone to produce noise.
So keep at it, the small sensor will suffer in low lighting, but occasionally you can get really strong lights. Usually you don't see the lights within city limits due to light pollution. But sometimes they are really really bright, and if you get so lucky, then it will be really easy to capture them. https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1349819351 https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1349819351 |
