You're right, these are set aside 8A contracts for disabled vets, minorities, and other "disadvantaged" classes of people. I had a solicitation from one in which the owner stated that he was a disadvantaged business with $10 million in annual sales. I was thinking to myself, "how does a business owner with $10 million in annual sales consider itself disadvantaged?"

Right now, I work as an IT Specialist for the Department of the Army but I'm looking elsewhere to avoid moving to MD. Right now, I'm doing the job that 4 people previously did and my organization just hired an intern for me that is essentially worthless. I'm even considering taking a pay cut, finding a job as an accountant, and getting my CPA license.

It's like welfare for businesses except the only difference is that there is competition for that one paycheck (contract) and the more disadvantages the business has the easier it is to get through the contract office. This is of course assuming one does not have connections.A TS (SCI/Poly/Lifestyle is even better), an MBA, and IT experience makes for a good resume which could net you a job that pays 100-200K/year base plus bonus. If you are financially motivated and liked business school I would suggest looking at technical presales which is where you get into the higher end of that pay range.

Right now I'm AD Air Force working on my Computer Science degree, 2 years or so left in my enlistment. How easily do you think one could get a job with 5-6 years AF exp, varying jobs, SCI clearance, and not too far from CS degree? What if I'm not quite done with the degree?

Comp Sci degree is somewhat irrelevant. In a programming job interview you will probably be asked to demonstrate your programming/math problem solving ability. For a systems engineering job you will be judged on your knowledge of various OSs and perhaps vendor specific specialty knowledge e.g., cisco IOS, Oracle, storage. For an application management job, you'll be judged on your knowledge/experience with that app for example Siebel, Salesforce etc.
What really matters is the type of experience that you are getting in the AF. Are you working on open systems and commercially available applications and OSes or are you working on mission specific proprietary systems and apps?
SCI will always help. The NSA aka the shadow DOD will keep growing and growing. There is such a think as the "intelligence industrial complex". They will always need you SCI guys.

Working out is great stress relief as well. Rider, if you're still sorting through this garbage for valid advice, enjoy they way things are now, live in the moment, and while you still have minimal responsibilities, try travelling, or at least hiking or something. Before diving into the military, if that's even something you're considering, see if there is a Junior ROTC program at your school. It's a great way to get in shape and learn to be a motivated, driven individual. Regardless of what you do, I wish you the best of luck.

You sound kinda like me cept im 21, and im not from a rich family. People used to annoy the **** outta me, but now i think about it, i never gave them a chance, never got to know them. I thought I was better than them. I grew up in a family that's pretty judgemental, and it might have rubbed onto me. Now I realize Im only two decades old and I have so much to learn. Theres plenty to look forward to... why to artists create art? why do people create all these things we don't really need? why do people like fast cars.... it all comes down to....>>> *****!
