I'm looking into getting an older Impreza (95-01) as a daily while the Miata get's built. I know about the head gasket issues starting in late 98, and some of the other basic stuff covered in the NASIOC FAQ but I'm a bit of a Subaru noob. Are they even worth the time?

 

They're great. the 98-01 coupe is one of the most sought after and favorite year among the scoob community. lightest, perfect for wrx/sti swap, and an excellent daily IMO

IIRC there was something about the early 2.5RS and the later one (one was SOHC and one was DOHC) and I read something about some issues on the SOHC versions...but nothing major.

 

Thanks for the input guys. I bought a '96 Outback Sport for $800 with 150k on it today. It needs an 02 sensor and a wind shield but it's remarkably clean other than that. Should make a good daily.

But yes, you're all absolutely right, GC8 coupes are pure sex.
