Any Pilots here?
My family thinks I have lost my fucking mind. I just contacted a flight instructor, to start training for my pilot’s license. This has been a dream of mine since childhood, but a dream I was never financially able to fulfill. The last 3 years, I have had an above average income, due to my working over seas. I believe it is time to bring this dream to fruition. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

Go for it! I started taking lessons because I love flying more than just about anything else, and it turned into a career choice. I started training for commercial flight, but there is not much need for commercial pilots right now, so I changed my focus. Hopefully if my plans go as I have them set, I'll be finishing my new training and flying helicopters for an air ambulance service within 2 years.

Private pilot here since about 2001 but I have not flown in about 3years.
If I can give you some advice...pick someone that you feel comfortable with while flying. Try and stick to this person through the whole training process. If you make a lot of changes with different people there will be a lot of time lost in the new flight instructor getting acclimated to you and having confidence in you to pilot the aircraft. Also try and get the training done in a controlled airfield. Good luck with the training. Tony |

Private should be easy enough on a weekend based schedule. Then you can start chartering planes to do stupid little cross-country flights. Thats when all the fun starts :D |
I fly a paraglider....does that count ?

Go for it, you won't regret it. Once you get it under way, don't let anything stop you from completing it. Even if you end up with just your private pilots license, it's well worth it.

Thanks for all the replies; I am going to start with the new sport pilot license.
I am state side for only 2 weeks at a time, and feel the 40 hours flight training would be hard to pull off in such a brief frame. The sport pilot training requirements are considerably less then those for a private pilot. My intentions are to complete the required 20 hours (including solo), during a 2 week period, flying every day. |

Yea, I wish.
It too is a dream of mine but I have to contend with my mother, and my girlfriend who insist that I stay on the ground. |
