I read this and wondered if it was a bad idea to buy an HDSS from Ebay. Anyone have any similar or dissimilar experiences?

What's wrong w/ ebay? Are the ebay ACT clutches different than say Carolina Clutch's?

Wanna take the risk? What's ACT's warranty literature look like? Clutches are expensive and critical. I'd feel much better buying from an authorized dealer on something like that.

How much money are you saving by going to eBay? Carolina Clutch is no tax to CA and free shipping. I paid $377 for my 1.8 HD with 6-puck.

Yeah, but it was funny. On a serious note, get an ACT clutch that has a regular disk not a puck. Don't even ask why. There's gotta be 100 clutch threads.

Has anyone dealt w/ ACT's warranty? I wonder if it makes any difference where it was purchased? What does "from retail purchase" mean?

Advanced Clutch Technology (ACT) warrants all products to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for normal use and service for a period of ninety (90) days from retail purchase. ACT reserves the right to examine any part returned for warranty claim to determine to ACT's satisfaction whether such part is defective in material or workmanship. ACT's obligation under this warranty shall be limited to repairing, replacing, or crediting, at its option, any part proven defective. No labor, lift, service or storage charges will be reimbursed for any reason. Damage to ACT's parts resulting from misuse or abuse shall void this limited warranty. Any return freight charges must be prepaid by the customer. Final determination of the suitability of the products for the use contemplated by the buyer is the sole responsibility of the buyer. ACT shall not be liable for any special, direct, indirect, incidental or consequential damages that might be claimed as a result of the failure of any part, including claims for delay, loss of profits, or labor. ACT shall not be liable for any damage or injury to persons or property resulting from improper installation or misuse of any part subject to this warranty. There are no other warranties expressed or implied extending beyond those set forth above.

It means when you buy it from a DEALER, you have 90 days to **** it up before they won't give a ****. I'd bet my left nut if you bought it from some no-name hackjob on eBay, they would deny your warranty because it wasn't "retail" (dealer) purchased.
