Anybody had a first gen Mazda 6 Wagon?
Anybody had a first gen Mazda 6 Wagon? I noticed they've depreciated to nothing lately, I drove one of the sedans once, seemed like a decent daily but the wagon would be awesome for practicality. V6 seems solid and there don't seem to be any major issues I've found so far... thoughts?

Edit: nvm thought it was older.

My only thought is I have been looking and they are 99.99999% autos.

A slow, DD wagon. What does it matter if it's an auto? Need to race that 2001 Civic in the next lane? |

Who cares?

Omg, I've been looking for a reliable dd'able, semi-fun wagon that's not a Subaru lately. This is perfect. And they're cheap!

Holy shit, they are cheap. What's the gas mileage like?
|
They were available in a Manual with the wagon, I've seen them for sale.
Gas mileage is turrible. Like maybe 20 mpg combined, and mid-20's on the freeway (this is what killed it for me). They are fun to drive, though. There is some sort of issue with o2 sensors and the exhaust manifold too. I remember a guy coming in needing to buy new exhaust manifolds, and he knew what he was talking about, did the research and repair himself. Even so, a good value. That one Josh posted is more expensive than the average, but it does look very clean and well cared for. Also: manuals are for more than racing, duh. |
Ew. Mpg kills that for me.

Here be a cheap one:
Mazda 6 wagon And anudder. 2004 Mazda 6 wagon But that first one if you could buy for like $6k would be nice. |

Sounds like 25mpg, my NB has averaged 25.8-9 for the last three tanks...

I picked up an auto one at a police auction a couple months back. Its a grand touring, completely loaded with every option available for $3500. Overall its a great driving car and hauls plenty. Gas mileage isn't great, I get around 22 or so. It worked out perfectly to replace my girlfriend's 3 as we needed something that could haul a bit more.
The timing covers on the v6 were known to leak as mine is. That's not the end of the world though. |
For that price for that nice, that's a nice price for sure. I'd buy it thrice.
|
What's the v6 like power wise? And what's the AAF? (Annoying automatic factor)
|
my brother has one. As stated the mileage isnt that great. It holds a surfboard and is fairly sporty. Shifts feel nice and clutch feels pretty good. Its surprisingly sporty in the higher rpm ranges, nothing to write home about. Its basically what you would expect nothing more nothing less. I recently added an aux cord to the head unit which was plug and play with an aftermarket board available online. If you have any specific questions pm me.

The automatic isn't terrible. It's pretty comparable to her 2010 3's automatic but maybe a bit more hesitation. I'd certainly daily it as its a comfortable ride yet handles nicely. The v6 has more than enough power to move its 3400lbs around. I wouldn't ever call it fast but its more than enough to get up and go when you want it to. Its claimed 215hp at the crank so pretty decent.

So, we bought an '05 for the wife to drive. 90k, one owner, dealer serviced, grand touring model, paid $5800. Seems like a lot of car for the money, comfortable, reasonably sporty for a daily. AAF is pretty low IMO. It averaged 25 mpg on the 210 mile drive home with mixed traffic and highway.
