I don't mind Chirstmas but I hate the whole having to give gifts to everyone. I would rather just send a nice card and get something for close friends and family. And not worthless junk but something with meaning. Chirstmas is more about showing people that are close to you thank you and to get all together and hang out and drink. It about saying thank you to a friend for holding that tranmission while I feed the bolt in or for letting me load the motor in the back of your car. I am sorry 95% of the holiday has nothing to do with the son of god but more based off the pagan winter holiday.

I would rather hang out with some good friends and have a nice dinner and drank. Which is what I am doing since the whole family is going out of town.

I agree with everyone here. I'm a scrooge. I'd also rather eat and spend time together then worry about who I might offend if I don't get them something and what the hell they would want in the first place and how to practice my smile for a present I don't want. I like Thanksgiving the best. The GF gets stuff from me all year. I also don't like having to give things on a specified holiday. What I want is minimal and generally more money then I want someone else to ever spend on me. And on top of that I'm not religious so it's a meaningless day to me. It's good for kids but once everyone in the family is a grown up who fucking cares anymore?

And this made me laugh out loud at work right now. The image of you on christmas with an assault rifle and no presents makes me smile. I'd like to buy you a drink if I could.

Ever notice that pagans, like myself, like to have a good time. However fundementalists are total squares?

Yeah, wtf is Christmas? Who here is Christian's anyway? Why is this a government regulated celebration to buy shit nobody needs to feel better about yourself? Fuck that...it's all a bunch of shit to me..."throw me in a ocean."

You asked wtf is Christmas

technically Christmas is a sacred Catholic Church tradition which originated around the year 250A.D in Egypt by a bishop. The English language did not always exist. The word "Christmas", means "Christ's-Mass" from old English Christes Maesse first found in 1038 A.D. & Christes-Misse in 1131 A.D. French is Noel, Dutch is Kerst-Misse. The Catholic Church set December 25 as the date on which Christmas or Christ Mass is to be celebrated to fit the Catholic Church liturgical calendar. If you are not Catholic & do not go to Mass you do not have to worry about Christmas which means Christ’s Mass just as you do not have to worry about the sacred tradition of hanukkah if you are not Jewish or just as you do not have to worry about the sacred tradition of Ramadan if you are not Muslim.

So there you have it now you know wtf Christmas is. :)

As twisted as this is...Mom recently passed in September...her side of the family is leaving us alone for the most part...so only gift I had to buy...Surround Sound for Pops...and help him model the house (in my name of course) for a new TV/Movie room...kinda nice - spend time together and no Christmas BS.

Hustler...hope it works out for you!

BTW - the "Christmas tree" is a Pagan belief...not Christian or Catholic...

johndoe 12-22-2008 11:08 AM

yes like many christian practices it incorporates the pagan beliefs of the native people being converted.

Saml01 12-22-2008 11:21 AM

I'm Jewish, we only celebrate the death of christ.

But most of all, I hate all the christmas music thats on EVERY radio station. I'm driving my other car now, and dont have Sirius in it, so im stuck listening to the shit.

Amazing how similar this is to - Salam Aleykum. Which is a Muslim saying.

I like Christmas, not the commercialism of it all. I have a 9yo, so we do the tree, put lights on the house, and have an open house for friends and family. We do not do any gift exchange for the adults in the family that's lame. We can always get what we want when we want it. My wife and I never do gift exchange, ever. However, we do purchase gifts for our two nieces and one nephew, and we set a price limit on that as well. We also purchase gifts for a foster child that is on an Angel tree. Even if you are a heartless bastard, you can always do that for a child for Christmas.

Actually, Christmas is a blend of Christian beliefs and the Roman holiday Saturnalia. It is a blend of pagan beliefs and the early church trying to conform to the rituals of the people in the region. Halloween is the exact same thing.

What is more amazing that the three religions are from the same region. Judaism, Christianity, and Muslim. Muslim and the Old Testament stories mirror each other except the names are different. Even the Epic of Gilgamesh(sp) mirrors some of the earliest of the Old Testament stories, except the Sumarians wrote it a few hundred years before the earliest known Old Testament documents. Go figure. Even the early Christian church rituals is a blend of both Judaism and Roman traditions.

the baptists don't like wine too much, lol. My mother quit drinking after her 5th marriage. lol However, I have a bottle of 2004 Giacosa Borolo for Xmas. I'm going to break it out with some friends well after dinner...I want to let the amateurs fade away before I break out the corked-bat, steroid enriched power-hitter. Hopefully the 3-hour ride in my tighly-sprung miata didn't mute the nose.

If you're gonna copy, gotta copy from the best.

I like the christmas season. The food is great. I've got great family and it's good to see them at least once a year. I shop early and online, so I don't have to deal with bullshit malls. I like all the houses lit up in my neighborhood. I like eggnog and cider.

Christmas eve is for hanging out with family, and exchanging gifts. Christmas day is for staying home with the girlfriend and watching kung fu movies.

bryantaylor 12-22-2008 07:13 PM

my holiday is going to involve heineken and call of duty.
