I'm thinking about buying one to use on my Ruger 10/22 rifle and Walther P22 pistol. It is expensive as hell IMHO ($550) and I want to know if I am wasting my money on a useless toy?

I looked into doing it when I was in VA, but was never rich enough. So my suggestion to you is to DO IT.

They sell these at the local gun store, I thought about getting one for my 9mm until I found out it would cost like $750. If you have the machinery, it's a piece of cake to make one. The question is, can you make it yourself? Or would you rather pay the money for one?

Making one might be easy, getting caught with one on the other hand means you are rooming with Bubba from now on.

The real cost and the hard part is getting the Class 3 stamp so that you can legally own it and shoot it.

What brands are available to you? There are some very good .22 suppressors available for around $250. Tack on your $200 tax stamp and you are still under $500.

Also, ask your shop if they will assist with setting up a living trust. This lets you bypass the LEO-signature requirement and also include any family members as members of the trust. The shop I'm planning to use charges $50 to create and file the trust which I consider money well-spent.

I've already got my .22 pistol set up with a threaded barrel bushing, just waiting for the extra cash to start the purchase process.

This is true, but you're paying for what? The government to know that you own it? It's like saying that you actually need a hunting license to shoot a deer on your own property if it's in season, or you actually need a drivers license to drive a car.
Legally Yes, but does it leave you physically incapable of doing it? Not in my law book.

Even if we are talking about a post-meltdown scenario, there are plenty of easy to construct suppressor designs that I don't see the point in breaking the law now. Not worth going to jail over it.

It can be up to 250k fine and and jail without a class 3 liscense IIRC. Easy to make, and hope you like tossing salads if you get caught with one.

You'll be cool like james bond.......at least as coo as james bond with a dick in his mouth.

The type of **** you get into without a license for something like this is not a slap on the wrist.

srsly, we've been killing varmints in the backyard for 50 years with guns without a problem. Some ******* go and buy the property behind us and build a house two years back, and now they think they can tell me that I can't dispatch the groundhog that is destroying my shed? They'd better shut the **** up before a 'stray' wanders their way. The groundhog is probably in my shed because they chopped down the 3 acres of woods on their property.

I'm looking at (on the suggestion of the guy who is going to sell it to me) an Innovative Arms Apex .22

$295 plus 7% tax.
$200 tax stamp
$30 adapter

If I buy my own on the net he will do a transfer fee for $75 (seems a little high). He says a trust is around $225 so I won't go that way. Just too cheap.

IDK if it has already been mentioned but when i went to go look at getting a P22, one of my friends that owns a gun shop here was showing me a sweet *** surpressor that you can take apart for cleaning (good option to look in to sence you would probly be shooting a .22 alot cause of how cheap the ammo is)
