Anyone heading to NorCal from San Antonio area?

So, figured I'd throw this out, see if there's any bites...

I'm contemplating flying from CA to TX, renting a 10' or 16' truck and a tow trailer, and bringing back a car and motorcycle.

So, yeah, that'd be a 10' or 16' truck (U-Haul or Budget), with just a motorcycle in it, and a tow trailer, carrying a car.

Overkill? Well, yeah. Especially considering the truck will be getting ~10mpg. But it's about the same cost as paying a transport company (for just the car), along with the peace of mind in knowing it's being loaded properly, etc.

Downsides? A ton of unused space on a moving truck, and 24 hours of road time... so either a really unpleasant day/night of driving with a car behind a moving truck, or 2 days and some anxiety when I park for the night.

I'd have an easier time convincing myself, if...

I was driving a pickup or cargo van, carrying the motorcycle, and towing the trailer
The truck wasn't devoid of cargo

Which brings me to the point. Is anyone headed from the SA area, to NorCal? Have some extra cargo that needs to be hauled, that isn't going to fit? Or have a pickup/van (tow-capable) that needs to be driven to CA?

Being able to recoup some expense (carrying some extra cargo), or driving someone else's vehicle with better gas mileage (and towing the car with it), there's mutual benefit.

Last question, and I do expect some laughs. Any thoughts on carrying a Miata in the back of a 16' Penske truck? Would I bust out the floor; extra layer of plywood to help reinforce? Is there any tie-down points inside? It's no race car trailer, but I don't think it's completely irrational...
