Default Picked up some Honda stuff tonight

I found a K24A4 on craigslist, and I called my friend up cause he's been looking to do a build for his Civic. We went and picked it up tonight, it's a K24A4...like 9.6:1 compression? My civic addict friend wants to put high comp pistons in it, and use a K20 head? He claims it'll make 300 whp in NA form. I don't know...it's Honda stuff, so I'm out of the loop. All I know is, my friend and I lifted the complete engine out of my truck by ourselves like it was nothing. If I could hold it securely, I'm sure I could lift it myself. I cannot believe how light this engine is. I also find it absurd how much horsepower Honda engines make in NA form, take the F20c for example. If my Miata BP came close to what a Honda engine makes, I wouldn't even need a turbo. It bugs me and makes me think stupid like, "Should I build a high comp BP NA engine for my car? Should I get a tubular manifold with an external WG setup? Should I just upgrade my current turbo and be done?" I want to run 12's all day long and still drive it daily, and I'm sure there's no other way that makes sense on a BP Miata than to turbo it.

I love Honda engines. I hope they come back to F1.

300whp n/a is really pushing it unless he runs every bolt on under the sun, runs some crazy cams, bumps the compression to like 12:1 and gets a really good tune and the dyno is very optimistic.

But mid 250's are possible for sure.

Those engine are great, and are NASTY on boost.
Too bad they're for FWD cars.

Honda engines are supposedly worlds apart. We have a 25-year old design, with output numbers to match.

If my car put down like 230whp NA, I would be done screwing around with it.

I dont know about exactly 300hp but somewhere north of 250 with 11:1 pistons and the K20 head on the K24 block is definitely possible. I watched a vid of an NA eg civic with that combo walking on a modded evo. He still had the stock 9.5:1 pistons too I believe.

2.4 liters+9krpm redline+vtakk=fast

I definitely wouldn't **** with it.

It just pisses me off...it's like why is our **** so far behind? This dude at work was all like "the new Mustang 5.0 is so awesome". I'm like, "yeah it's about time...jap cars have had that technology since the 90's...example: you're awesome 5.0 makes 400 hp? that means that a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder would have to make 144 to equal the hp per liters...guess what, a 90's 1.8 liter Miata engine made what, 140 at the flywheel?" He's like, "oh **** son".
Honda engines though, WTF. Why didn't Mazda get on that ****?

HP per liter is ricer math and is prett much useless unless racing in a displacement limited class.

Power density is what you want, most power in the smallest package.

Compare the LS7 vs S85 (BMW V10).
LS7 is a 7.0 making 505hp
S85 is a 5.0 making like 507

LS7 makes ~72hp/Liter
S85 makes ~104hp/liter

LS7 Makes 470ft-lbs
S85 Makes 384ft-lbs

LS7 Weighs 458 lbs
S85 weighs 530 lbs

LS7 is physically smaller

If you were putting them in the same car, which one would you take.

About K series vs the BP. Dont forget like everyone was saying the BP is old as hell, but it takes great to boost. So when life gives you lemons...boost the **** out of your BP.

Working in a shop ive had lots of experience with the F20C and F22C and they are unreliable as hell, I dont know how many times ive seen popped F20s.

Plus BPs are cheap, and they are wrapped in a good car, two quaities I wouldn't assign to the K series. So be happy

I hear ya...i can buy complete BP's for dirt cheap and they DO take boost very well. I'll stick with the BP. The only question is: Upgrade my 460's to DW 600's and get an external WG setup?

There are several 500+hp boosted k series out there that are nothing more than a stock motor running lots of boost. I work on Hondas for a living and have boosted several of them, and I would put swap out my bp for any honda motor in a heartbeat if it was practical.
