I still think the best is agreeing on a place/cost and then 1 hour before meeting they come up with a story about how they drank too much the night before and can only pay X - Arbitrary amount for the product. I've had to decline at least 4-5 people for various things in that manner. I just screen my emails and I tend to have pretty good luck on CL, I just hate shifting through the crap you get.

mad tyte hood spacers (yes i have them, but only because the hood wont close without cutting it. lmao), double spoilers, trunk rack underneath, towing package, 18 inch rims, monstertruck ride height..... BAWSSS....

there have been sooooo many money order scams going on lately (not that he is doing that for sure) i posted a washer and dryer on CL for $50. had a response saying he was going to mail a money order. next day, he said the money order was sent, but his assistant sent the wrong one, so the money order i would get would be $150. he asked that i just cash it, and when his "assistant" showed up to retrieve the washer and dryer, i could just give them the extra $100 to return to him.... i was like... WTF??? ok...
then i started digging, and found out that this scam was riding hardcore on CL all over the place. Basically told him to f**k off, and i ended up giving the washer and dryer to another person that responded, for free..... waaaaaay too many scammers out there...

i write cash only pretty much between every sentence in my post. and say it a few times in emails:

Ok, between 4 and 5pm today is fine. We can meet at XXXXX. Please remember $1800 all cash, I can only accept cash, thanks.

Same here, cash is king.

I didn't realize the USPS money order thing was common to forge, and that even though the bank deposits it into your account, that you may still be liable once they realize later that it is fake, after the bank already deposits the money.

They do that all the time. My wife is a banker, its a daily occurance to them.

Often it takes up to 7 days for the money to clear, and if it doesn't it just disappears from your account.

I go to PO or use that machine at 7-11 and get cash on demand. Who deposits a mo?

Yup, that's the common one. There are some VERY legit fakes around out there if you look at the pics...proper security features and everything. I'd NEVER do one of those transactions though...it seems blatantly obvious it's a scam.....but thousands of people have suckered for that one. I was even reading that someone obtained some fake MOs from someone, knew they were fake and called the local authorities....who were less than surprised nor alarmed about them..IIRC they didn't even care for the guy to send them in.

It's pretty easy to spot a scam though...if you have half a brain.
