Default If in Dominica...

Buy some Macoucherie rum for yourself and for me, I'll pay you for your effort. Meg and I got a bottle on a cruise a few years back and man-o-man this stuff's great. It's flavored but nothing like a typical flavored/spiced rum. Just...different in a good way. Plus the label has the silhouettes of 2 naked caribbean chicks. Thin ones. Nice.

Meanwhile I'm drinking dark n stormy's. Meg got me legit gosling's rum and ginger beer for christmas. yeah baby.

Happy 2011!!!

When we were in USVI for our wedding in 2006 we did a tour of the Cruzan rum distillery, and I'm a fan of their products. Among other things I picked up a couple bottles of their single barrel estate rum. Now that is some smooth sippin rum. I still have one unopened bottle I bought back then. And I heard (though not sure how authoritative the source is) that recently they started blending it with a little of their 5-year. I can get both the "single barrel" and the 5-year at the ABC stores here in VA. It might be worth a taste test to see if I can tell a difference between my old single barrel and their current "single barrel."

I also picked up a bottle of their Navy-style rum that is made with black strap molasses. Dark rum, great for sipping. I think the current production bottles have dropped the word "Navy" but it should be the same stuff. Worth the $15-20 for a bottle if you find it.

I can tell you that once you taste some smaller production rums you'll probably never buy "Brand B" again. If I'm just going to make mixed drinks, I'll get Cruzan light rum instead. It's cheaper and has some actual flavor to it.

Another good sipping rum that I occasionally enjoy with a cigar is Sailor Jerry's. You can find this one just about anywhere.

The one in the middle, I'm guessing.

Edit: It's called "Elixer of Bois Bande"

When I worked for Club Med, I spent 7 months on Provo in the Turks&Caicos... we had this stuff for breakfast. It's fantastic.
