Default So who will get the big storm named Sandy In Your Vagina?

There's a storm a brewin.

AND it's supposed to combine with other meteorlogical events (fronts, full moon tides, etc). NOAA suggests that the combined effect will be GREATER than the sum total of overlaps.

AND it's headed right for us. Some of us. Not sure which us yet though, but many models point to, basically, HEREish.

Read the little wind speed estimates. probably expecting 70+ mph winds trying to suck out my new windows starting monday and lasting through the week.

We are battening
and emergency prepareding
and shelterin in placing

also we are purchasing massive quantities of TP and water.

halp. earthquakes were so much easier. your **** just all of a sudden falls down and you move on.

Now would be an excellent time to buy parts for the car. I am sure the wife would approve.

Yup. Battening down right now. It will probably end up being nothing but better safe than sorry. If nothing else it's just early prep for winter.

I just wish I had my generator hook up installed already. Last year I went 13 days without power from that October bullshit.

All this storm means for me is a couple days off of work. Can't pour concrete in a hurricane! Lol

silly people who think the houses here can withstand hurricanes and earthquakes the way houses in florida and california respectively can with their stricter code requirements for the type of disasters common to the region.

Unless your house is made entirely of drywall a category 1 hurricane should do almost nothing to your house no matter what state you are in, unless of course you get flooded out. If you get flooded it doesnt really matter how well your house is built anyway.

After the derecho back in June we just stopped keeping an entire fridge full of stuff. Less $$ to throw away and restock after power failures considering I haven't taken the plunge on a generator yet. I've got plenty of propane and charcoal for the two grills, and a french press, so we won't have to live like animals. Plenty of flashlights and batteries, and I have a few badass Aladdin oil lamps that are basically like 100W light bulbs. Spare car batteries and an inverter can power the laptop and MiFi so I'll have interwebs as long as the cell sites are up. What caused us to take refuge at our friends' house in DC back in June was the loss of air conditioning and the resulting 90*F temps in the house, but it's cool enough now that things should stay pretty civilized around here.

Is it odd to half hope the roof gets ripped off? We are getting the entire roof redone next week... hoping for an act of god isn't insurance fraud right?

From what I heard it is not the right side of the storm for that. You will get the riptides and not the best waves. Be careful if you go out because that **** is dangerous.

Besides save money, I mean....

I think we're set. Picked up a few batteries, water, and toilet paper (we were in need of the last two anyway).

Rearranging some of the camping gear and whatnot into our long overdue emergency kit.

Thought about getting Settlers of Catan for an extended boredom streak but shmeh.

I got my generator ready...I'll have heat, running water, tv, and cold beer. Now that's how you do it!
