Atlanta-area aluminum welding help

Can anyone local help me out with some aluminum welding, preferably TIG I suppose? Should be a simple job for anyone with moderate experience.

If it can wait a month or so, I'll have TIG access and certification. I have an interesting project at work right now ;)

OK I am officially a moron. I saw you got the head by DHL today (you namedropped in the COP thread on m.net)

I rescind my offer to weld haha

Went and saw the head today for the first time. Here's what needs to be welded

First pic: I'm holding the broken piece so that you can see its bottom
Second pic: Broken piece removed
Third pic: Broken piece press fit into head (it fits perfectly)

thats gonna sucks, I wouldnt weld it. (maybe the pictures are deceiving)

can you bet to both sides?

kotomile 10-31-2007 06:50 PM

it looks like it only serves as a gasket surface for the vc, if so I'd see no problem welding it.

I say go for it, that part of the head isn't under pressure. It's just a bolting surface that you most likely won't even be using. I say get it welded up, any welding shop that does aluminum should be able to do it for you. Maybe even a tranny shop that welds bellhousings. I bet if you called up a good tranny shop they could refer you a good welder.

Yeah, I think it's weldable. But, as you can tell, I aint no expert. That area holds the engine lift hoist point though.

Braineack 10-31-2007 10:38 PM

the dude was running it with all that jb weld wall there. you just gotta stick it in and weld two lines and smooth the top surface again.

there's still other mounting spots to drop it in, all four corners and holes for coil pack on the resr.

sweet, I didn't look for other hoist locations, glad they're there for when that time comes.

classic "loose supercharger bracket" catastrophe
Just use the weld to hold the piece in - that would minimize heat/warp issues. The go to the rtv for sealing it up.

Thats nothing a little PC-Pro can't fix bro!
