Makes my tongue numb. Anyone else ever try it?
Damn htat was hard to type. My fingars are munb too. I'll regret this tomoorow. It is weird stuff. I'm new to it.

It's real, wormwood and all. Made by some outfit from France with the original rcipe from the 1800s. It is distilled int eh Combier distillery in France and is called "Lucid" which I am not right now. More tomorrow. Time for bed.

Absinthe is baller, since it's like $100 for a little bottle, for the better stuff anyway. Always wanted to try it, but never had enough money to pony up and buy some when I was in the mood for it. One of these days the stars will align.

Well, there are much cheaper and far more pleasant ways to "get fucked up," I must say. I prepared it in the traditional way with the chilled water dripping upon a sugar cube in the middle of a slotted spoon. It louched from a transparent greenish color to a cloudy white.
It tastes very strongly of anise seed which tastes like licorice. It is very bitter and it's bitterness is only slightly disguised by the addition of the sugar. It is not a pleasant drink, IMO. It really has no redeeming qualities that I can find.
It is akin to drinking cheap gin with a bit of water and a sugar cube thrown in it. You might try it if someone raved about it, or if preparing it made you look like a kid with a new chemistry set. But you wouldn't want another one.
I've had it on four different occasions now and have given it a fair shot but I don't like it. I'm using "good" absinthe according to people who are enthusiasts. It isn't top of the line, but who wants to spend top of the line money on something you might not like? It isn't the really cheap stuff either.
This contains Thujone (chemical found in Grande Wormwood) but I felt nothing a good stiff drink might not be able to replicate. That is even after forcing down a second glass. This was an exercise in satisfying my curiosity, and I found nothing of value.
Edit: The hangover seems to be far more pronounced than with other liquor, beer, or wine I can recall imbibing.
Cliffs: Tried it, didn't like it.

Here's my understanding of absinthe...
There's the real stuff, which you can only get in france, or whatever country it is that it's produced in, and contains drugs that are illegal in the US.
Then there's the stuff you can get in every other country in the world, including the US...which is nothing more than alcohol.
