Default How I Got Screwed Trying to Buy a MSM... Again

Some of you may remember I was going to buy a red MSM in long beach awhile back, then the guy got all shady and backed out.

Well I have an even better story now! I was posting about it on mazda-speed.com, but here is what happened.

I found this guy on craigslist, within a short distance of me:

*Pics Below

Looks nice! Asking $10.5k, so if I can talk him down it should be a good deal!

So I go to look at it, and it looked super clean. Perfect paint, drove well, etc. Comes with real Rays wheels, a larger intercooler, alum. no name radiator, some other stuff.

He had someone else look at it, they bailed, he asked if I wanted it for $10k and I said "yeah, let's do it!".

Weird thing #1 - The only issue is that because he had to up plug the battery (chip in the key died... meh), he has to drive it enough to get the OBD monitors to run. Fair enough, I link him to a thread showing how to do that quickly and let him at it.

So I have been texting the seller all week about me getting the money and setting up a date to do the transaction. I started on a loan from my local credit union. Throughout the week I keep texting asking for the proof of smog, only thing left. He keeps deferring it, which is kind of weird, but whatever.

So I get the loan late in the week, and text him to let him know the cash is ready. He still does not have the smog, but assures me he will try his best to follow the threads instructions. We set up a time to meet sunday.

Then Saturday I text again to ask about smog and make sure we are good to go. I hear nothing for a long while, then I get this gem:

Sorry man, someone just looked at it and left me a deposit and will be paying me the rest of the money on Monday for the total purchase price of $10,500
Oh wonderful. So the guy is now selling the car out from under me (we agreed on $10k). But this is not the best part!

So I call him to just get the story. I don't think he was expecting it as he seems nervous over the phone. I rehash the deal, and ask what is going on. He says he did not think our agreements were a deal, and a guy came offering more so he is going with him. He apolgizes a bunch, says if he knew I was getting a loan he would not have done it, etc etc. Seemed weird to me but what do I know.

Here is the best part

Our call drops, so I just send a short text saying sorry it did not work out, ill just have to get the cash back to the CU. Then he sends this:

Sorry, my connection may have cut out. Once again I'm terribly sorry, I didn't know you were pulling out a loan, I would have asked for a deposit. There are better condition msm's out there. The car was completely repainted, and the buyer today pointed out a lot things on the bottom of the car like missing bolts that the body shop must have forgotten to put back. The reverse lights don't work and license plates don't work either.

The buyer also pointed out that the vin# is missing on the passenger door, which means the door must have been replaced due to damage, which was news for me. The throwout bearing is wearing too and rattles, meaning it will need clutch work. For 10k you could probably get one with lower mileage and a better history.

EXCUSE me ?? You are telling me you knew the whole car was repainted and never said a word? Body shop? I should note, NONE of this was disclosed before. He was happy to send me a clean autocheck too when I was looking at the car! No accidents, nothing.

So now I am left with a bunch of cash from my CU and anger in trusting someone. And to think I was going to buy some stuff from the Fab9 sale so it was ready for the car when it got here! Good thing I didn't I guess.

Anyway, if any of you see this car again for sale or what not (5SPM146 plate), be weary. I attached some more pictures for reference.

This was this past weekend, I just needed to vent. I am going to get drunk now .

1) that sucks
2) you realize it's possible he could have lied about the messed up/repainted part to make you less mad right?
3) you posted this on MS like at least a few days ago, with the same ending, is this just copy/paste to get more sympathy? or are you actually going to go get drunk again just thinking about it? If it's bad then he did you a favor by selling it from under you, and if it's good then he's a douche for not sticking to his word.

I feel for you, I really do, just not sure it's worth being this upset over something that didn't happen, cause there's so many miata's out there and even plenty of mazdaspeeds that I'm sure you'll find "the one" without too much trouble.

Good luck

PS: I don't mean this in a negative or offensive manner, just an observation by an outsider.

How are you not able to tell if a car has been repainted? Seriously. I'm glad this fell through just so I wouldn't see a post about you bitching about some piece of **** MSM you just wasted 10k on.
P.s. that was a compliment.

2) Yeah, I totally do. Which is equally weird to me.

3) I am not that mad, I just really wanted to get the pictures on here too in case anyone else looks at at the car in the near future. Figure id leave the story since I didn't think many people frequent the mazdaspeed forum and I thought it was silly/interesting. If you want me to trim it down to just a link i'll do so.

3+) I get drunk a bunch, sooo

Haha yeah the somewhat rare black paint plus those wheels looked pretty darn good, I'll admit.
