How hard is it to build a mounting plate? 5 minutes with a jigsaw and some 1/8-1/4 fiberboard?

With the NB door cards, you can even use 1/2" if you spend another few minutes to trim the stuff out of the inside of the speaker grilles. they sit out pretty far from the metal.

Too much work ( you know, for a website dedicated to cheap bastards DIY and all).

Very easy, I was just hoping they would be plug and play. I'm tired.....

That said, I had some scrap abs laying around...

I must say, for $7 I can't believe how good these speakers sound, it's unreal. I have a small rattle in the drivers door that I need to address but other than that I'm extremely happy.

Before I installed mine, I cut away small semi-circles in the rubber surround so my screws wouldn't ruin the speaker when you tighten too much and rip them apart and pull up the glue.

when i saw the review / specs on zaphaudio, I knew they'd fit right into a miata sound-wise. you can't beat them for the price anywhere.

Mine showed up today...super psyched. Actually ordered two sets, and revamping the setup in my wife's XTerra. Her CD player stopped working about two years ago and I never fixed it. She's getting a MP3/iPod/USB capable head, crossovers, JAMOs and decent tweeters, and something small that bumps in the back. She'll love it.

That's what you call a 5th anniversary gift koto.

I am curious about the Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X994...

time alignment and everyone's fave: adjustable color illumination.

I've loved the Kenwoods for 10 years now. They've all had adjustable illumination and despite having a bunch of blingy video game like crap on the screen, you can turn it all off and have something simple like a two line description for like the artist/song or station/artist on Sirius or whatever.

How DARE you poke at the all knowledgeable god of audio that is CATMAN! lol

The new crutchfield came yesterday and while I was eating I saw this.

It can use the Pandora app and put it right on the touchscreen for use.

I just bought an alpine CDA-105 for my wife's prelude.

Had to go to ebay for a dash kit, the one provided through crutchfield is a joke.

http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchf...97893-f-1.jpeg

Beyond the fact that this are no support brackets to acutally bolt the radio to the frame of the dash, the cubby is stupid small and I keep reading it's too narrow and deep to put anything in else you'll lose it. The color doesnt match well at all.

bought this extra for a few bucks on ebay:

Pretty much replica of the stock cubby and with brackets for the radio.

I'm going to be loading all her music on a thumb drive for her and this will be her xmas gift. I was considering putting it in this weekend while she's travelling but I wont have the second dash kit by this weekend.

just installed said Alpine CDA-105. Sounds amazing on stock speakers, I had to turn DOWN the bass.

Picture of same:

Will something like that physically fit into an NA? I've always had my radios in the upper half of the hole, so I can't say for certain, but it's always seemed to me that the lower half wouldn't accomodate anything very deep.

I am, of course, referring to something like this:

http://img40.imagefra.me/i5c3/thradd..._0d0_u77ts.gif

gospeed81 Dec 3, 2010 09:08 PM

My deck is in the lower half of the hole, with gauges above it. Wires in back just barely clear the metal bracket for the dash bar upright, but it fits flush with no funny angle, and the CDs just barely come out even with shifter in forward gears.

Found this while searching car audio DIY stuff, some of you may have seen this already. A bit extreme but I plan on doing this.

My friend who is an audiophile swears on FatMat Rattletrap as oppose to Dynamat, http://www.fatmat.com/kits/rattletrap/door.html

I like them a lot.

This is a pretty close cousin if you want a dirt cheap 6.5 that will sound good in a miata:

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=299-908

cross them over between 3-4kHz to a tweet.

Are these as good as the sold-out ones wrt max loudness, ~2-3 kHz dispersion and midrange distortion when playing 60 Hz bass moderately loudly?

For $9 I'll buy 4 just for shits and grins. Put em in my beaters.

For an ultra cheap setup, will they work passably without a lopass on em?
