Fern Gully 2 was a very purty movie in 3D. That's all I have to say about that.

02semiata 01-07-2010 12:23 PM

Wow thats scary

kotomile 01-07-2010 12:41 PM

I'd still rather watch Avatar than Pocahontas, wouldn't you?

Plus, I don't recall seeing anything in the Pocahontas story about awesome mech suits, space travel, CF-reinforced skeletons, Taruq Maqto, or using brainwaves to drive a genetically-engineered hybrid body.

TrickerZ 01-07-2010 12:41 PM

Now that is awesome.

Sparetire 01-07-2010 12:48 PM

The movie was amazing visually.

It also showed me that Hollywood has not learned a thing since about 1967 politically speaking. I had a hard time deciding if I was more pissed by the rediculus portrayal of servicemen or by the 6th grade level political statements that insulted the intellegence on anyone with an IQ higher than room temperature......in celcius.

"Oh wow. I had no idea that this was reflecting on the Iraq war. It was soooo subtle. But suddenly when they say 'shock and awe' and 'daisy cutter' I get it. How clever!"

Give me a break.

And I'm still floored that they seriously portrayed Marines as a bunch of happy baby killers in the grand old Vietnam-era style. So nice to see a bunch of clueless fat morons clapping at the end of the movie too. This is what hapens when a bunch of self-righteous entertainers attempt political statements.

I'm one of the people who thinks that Iraq was a huge mistake and that movie pisses me off.

Braineack 01-07-2010 12:50 PM

Iraq still IS a huge mistake, we should nuke it and take care of the issue.

No. Iraq is now a huge issue that has to be stabilized. Going in the first place was a massive screw-up. Rebuilding it is basically the only option now that we blew it apart IMHO. Now thats easy for me to say, I never served. But sadly I think it is the harsh reality. If it does gown down the tubes, then the fight will eventually just start all over again.

Ironicaly, Afghanistan is the single best object lesson there. We basically win in the 80s, then just up and leave with the place a complete power vacuum with no funding. It's not long before the drug lords fill it. Which was so damn aweful that by the time the Taliban really gets rolling people dont give a crap if they have a brutal justice system or anything else as long as they keep the violence down on a local level. And here we are 20 years later occupying large chuncks of it.

Long story short, rebuild it or we have to go back later. The world wars are a pretty good example too. Its not fair, its just reality. Sucks.

Braineack 01-07-2010 01:01 PM

if iraq didn't exist, there would be no issue....get it?

I'd rather do pocahontas than some blue-faced, gill-equipped bitch with elf ears:laugh:

Herpes from that planet will liquify your eyes and cause headache, dry skin, nausea, and indigestion. Consult your doctor before watching Avatar, as it could result in an increase in blood pressure. Stop watching Avatar if you have thoughts of suicide or have an erection lasting longer than 4 hours.

I need to get out of the house.

Agree with this. Being a Sci-Fi geek I couldn't get around how all the animals in that movie had 4 eyes 4 front limbs but the 'indians' were humanoid.

Stein 01-07-2010 02:56 PM

I'm going to do something that I have never done in my 42 years. I'm going to see a movie twice in the theater. 3D this time.

Fireindc 01-07-2010 06:22 PM

+1 avatar was ftw. That 3d shit is fucking awesome.

Cococarbine3 01-07-2010 11:40 PM

+1. Ridiculously awesome movie in 3D.

*spoiler

The only thing that irked me was when Jake got off the plane in the wheelchair, and the Marines were making fun of him/pitying. NO ONE in any division would EVER do that.

kotomile 01-08-2010 07:26 AM

Agree, Cococarbine. It'd be more a thing to revere him for versus ridicule. I've gotten used to Hollywood (read: the entire media) misunderstanding (and often outright lying) about the military so it didn't phase me much.

Yeah, sure, we laughed at Jake, but what's wrong with laughter? Just because we laugh at something doesn't mean we don't care about it. Jake made us smile, and fighting made Jake smile, so where was the harm in that? The people that are wrong are the ones that think people like Jake should be "protected" and kept out of the public's eye. The cool thing about Jake being in the military was that he was in your face, and you had to deal with him, whether you laughed or cried, or felt nothing. That's why Jake rules!

Preluding 01-08-2010 11:23 AM

this is the best movie I've seen in many many years... saw it in IMAX in 3D

If you have the chance, do it!
Seriously.. this is a theatre movie...

levnubhin 01-08-2010 11:44 AM

I thought it was freaking awesome.

lol @ Fern Gully 2...nice. Even still. I liked it.

turotufas 01-10-2010 01:07 AM

Visually the movie was great. BUT it was lame as fuck. Horrible editing!

skidude 01-10-2010 10:01 AM

The movie was pretty awesome, but my girlfriend ruined it on the way out of the theater for me by saying it was the same as Pocahontas. I must send her that summary at the top there.

Good point. But frankly its just damned annoying when the military gets portrayed the way it was. Its a lot like how people would probably feel if they did a movie portraying one political party or the other as an incredibly evil pack of sociopaths. Or a movie showing black people as violent, white people as nerds, hispanics as sleazeballs, Jews as stingy, Irish as drunks, people from the South as rednecks, etc. Basically, it sucks when people just blast out stupid stereotypes. Unless its a commedy, in which case it can be damned funny. Ironically, I think I am more annoyed than any of the military people I know. So you have a good point there.

Nobody is saying ban the shit. Its just that it's pretty fucking lame when a bunch of idiots in Hollywood have to take a visually awesome movie and use it for what amounts to political grafitti. I dont why it is that being an actor/actress makes some people feel the need to put out their opinion in one form or another on every subject under the sun, but its lame.

Braineack 01-11-2010 01:20 PM

fuck the military.

I thought they made it pretty clear that they were essentially hired mercenaries, not military. Pretty much Blackwater in the 22nd century.

I actually look at this movie more like Independence Day than the aliens beat the humans. The humans WERE the aliens. Aliens come to take over the planet. Locals fight back with inferior weapons. Locals destroy aliens. Locals win.

Bond 01-11-2010 03:59 PM

Movie sucked ass. I also can't see 3D, it just doesn't work for my eyes. Plot was boring, and I just couldn't give two fucks about those blue elves.

Everyone but me loves this movie film apparently.

Two very good points. Jake was a former Marine (though Marines will tell you - there is no such thing), and the head-of-security Colonel was too IIRC. Jake's mission there wasn't even that of one of the mercenaries, since he was to take his brother's spot in the Avatar program, to try and interface with the native population.

fuck doesn't have to be capitalized, it is an intensifier.

fucking lead off a sentence with a lowercase "f" anytime you like as long as it's attached to the word "fuck."

That reminds me that I didn't use the glasses either. Only used them for the subtitles and when the people made noise in the theater.
Everyone in that movie acted 'cool' I aint like that. :nono:
